3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tasted at a bottle share in a hotel room after the most recent Jackie-Oís bottle release. Thanks to phaleslu for sharing! Very dark red color... Clear around the edges... Nice thin light brown head, that leaves great thicker lace. Some dark fruity hop, some cola. Earthy hop. Bigger body. Smooth, lighter carbonation. Dry finish. Moderate bitter, also moderate sweet taste. Very light bite, light sweet bite. Alright black lager, for me. Doesnít quite pull off the black IPA masquerade, for me. Hard to ignore the unwelcome dark fruit notes.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle via recent Texas trade- thanks, Brian! Pours a deep brown with a small beige head. Notes of nuts, burnt sugar, earth, tobacco, and some citrusy and earthy hops. Medium-bodied, with medium carbonation and a roasty, almost burnt mouthfeel. The schwarzbier cuts the black IPA side a bit, but itís an interesting balance and nice beer.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle at the parentals with my dad. Pour is pitch black with a frothy brown head and great lacing. Big hoppy - grapefruit, grassy, orange peel - slight smoke, toasted malt, bread, and leather. Taste is grapefruit, cocoa, roasty, coffee, orange peel, light smoke, and grass with a juicy bitter finish. Slick mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Pretty cool beer.

Wonderful bottle poured surprise during Scardello cheese dinner. This is a phenomenal beer with buckets of flavor that crushes most lagers. This is a richly smoked black IPA that bends categories. Very well brewed and exciting.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Near black body with a good amount of creamy, tan head. Nose is marvelous - big time hops (pine and resin) with some roasted malt. Tons of flavor (this is a lager?!) - nutty, slight chocolate, nicely bitter.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
651 ml. bottle. Pours a medium, weíll retained, beige head with extensive lacing, over a n almost black (SRM 35) body......nose is light pine, citrus peel, hints of heavy roasted malts with coffee, chocolate tones, minimal esters.....taste is slightly sweet, with pine, resin, grapefruit peel, then lighter roasted malts, with cocoa, chocolate, minimal esters, almost bits of smoke, finish lingering bitter citrus......mouth feel thick, sticky, alcohol warmth present, carbonation low. The label said is an Indian Black Lager. This is not a Schwarzbier, nor a Black IPA. It needs less hops for the former and less maltiness for the latter. It is an interesting experiment. It is one of those inter style beers that craft brewers love. BJCP 8/3/15/4/7

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 12/20
Black pour with a thick khaki head. The nose is roasty and semi-sweet with an ample grassy bitterness. The flavor is clean and smooth with a strong medium body. Nice medium range earthy pine hop notes with a bit of an American pale ale grassiness (dry hopped with simcoe Iím told), backed with a dark semi bitter (but also kinda sweet) malt body, and a faint touch of bakers cocoa. Strong and deep, though a little roasty and bitter than I prefer.
