2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Goldorak (439) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 16, 2005
UPDATED: JUL 3, 2005 Dark copper red, the soft fluffy head died down to a ring, but came back in force with half a whirl of my glass.
Smell is roasted, caramel. A bit more carbonated than the style suggests, it’s creamy smooth and malty sweet. Not much booze in there, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing, because I would have no trouble having a second serving of this, while some others are either too sweet or too strong.
Edit: I sampled the new format (12oz bottles) and it seems a little better than the 500ml. A bit more hops, a bit more caramel malt, and a chocolate-like aftertaste that reminded me of Yoohoo.

Dark brown color, with a frothy tan-colored head, toasted malt nose, with a nutty accent, hint of crème brulée, caramel and brown sugar notes in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a toasted malt character, nutty graininess notes, a toffeeish accent,, hint of fruitiness, leading towards a malty grainy finish.

pours clear pale brown with a decent head, although disappears the second it’s poured. caramel malts, roasted malts too, a hint of smoke, burnt bread, slightly fruity. very light body for the style, good drinkability. an ok-scotch ale, but clearly underwhelming.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Radek Kliber (5912) - Toronto (Can) Krotoszyn (Pol), POLAND - SEP 19, 2005
aroma :Deep , thick malted candy with scotch woody character . Toasty, malty flavours that go thin toffee candy like at finish. This beer is lacking bitter end bite. This would bring balance to the formula.

(5oo ml bottle) Pours a thin mahogany body and no head. Sweet malt and a smoked whisky nose. Caramel malt flavours mingle with the hoppy finish. Thin and lacking complexity but good none the less.

Clear amber pour with medium tan head. Malty aroma, butterscotch. Subdued flavors; malty, sweet, not alcoholic as I would have expected. Easy drinking, but flavors are too muted.

Bottle courtesy of egajdzis (thanks!). Poured a medium to dark and see through copper color with a very small sized tan head. Aromas and tastes of peat, earthy, and caramel. Eric kinda ruined the aroma when he mentioned chicken noodle soup because I think he hit it right on the head! Thinner body.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Dorwart (2266) - Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA - SEP 23, 2007
Lareg off-white head of small bubbles. Dense and creamy on top. Minimal carbonation. Light malty aroma with some cabbage, roasted grains and a bit of rotting grass. Color is a very nice deep dark crimson. Light smokey aroma with some malts and a bit of earthy notes. Pretty basic and one dimensional. Finishes clean and pretty blah. A very basic and boring scottish ale. Kind of an insult to the style.

Poured a dark copper color with no head or lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, dry peatiness, and grains, though I swear my first reaction to this aroma was chicken noodle soup... strange? Taste of sweet caramel malts and smokey peat, with a thin mouthfeel. Rather disappointing.
