3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Brown bodied with lively carbonation and bubbly tan head. Mild aroma, bready, nutty, light yeast and little hops. Really not very rich. Taste is more pronounced, somewhat burned and with some caramel. Heavy carbonation dims this a bit but I don?t mind that too much. Alcohol well hidden. Very Belgian and an okay attempt. Dark ruby with off-white foam head lacing to glass. Aroma is caramel, sugary malt. Taste is that of a typical brune, bit too sweet. Aftertaste is lasting caramel. (Velp 201208)

Bottle sample as "L’Alsacienne Biere Du Gambrinus Brune" at a tasting at Dancing Camel. Thanks Dagan. Pours cloudy brown + some foam. Coca Cola and liquorice aroma, bitter, anisette taste. Liquorice aftertaste and flat. Take out the anise and you’ll get a fairly nice beer.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours a hazy medium amber. Aroma is lightly malty, hoppy, yeasty. Flavor is moderately sweet, alcoholic, roasty dark. Not nearly as good as some of the other Abbey Dubbels I’ve had recently.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Small coarseish tan head. Deep dark brown body with reddish tinge. Sugary licorice and cardamom aroma with alcoholic herbal notes. Dry-sweet licorice and cardamom taste with yeasty rock candy notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, somewhat hot mouthfeel. Dryish cough drop and burnt malts aftertaste with anise and cinnamon notes ends abruptly. Not bad, and quite complex, but perhaps a bit too intensely spiced. (0.33l bottle, Village de la Biere, Strasbourg.)
