Mike_B (12), Canada Sep 27, 2008 Noir opaque avec un beau collet mousseux.
Goût de café et d’alcool avec une bonne amertume en finale.
Murf_Dog (4), Waterford, Michigan, USA does not count Aug 13, 2008 WOW! Hands-down the smoothest, creamiest, slightly sweet choco/java stout I have ever tasted. The menu did not mention cream/milk, but I suspect this brew has some in it.
Initial tap has bubbles dispersed throughout, settling to a thick creamy head of about 1/2" within a minute. Settles into a constant 1/4" head that just hangs in there, even when you only have a 1/4" of beer in the botton of the glass. Beer is a nice opaque black/brown - looks almost as good as it tastes.
No bottles or growlers for take-home, so I had a second pint. Will have more any (every) time I return to Montreal.
elihapa (317), Connecticut, USA Jun 13, 2008 1/15/08 notes: kinna like a subdued version of Brooklyn’s chocolate stout, minus the grainyness. Some espresso, some chocolate, some nuts and caramel. All in all, flavor leans towards sweet, until the finish. Overall, pretty solid stuff, nothing too novel, but I would definitely drink it again. Pretty damn accessible for a Impy Stout. GregClow (2350), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Feb 17, 2008 Draught at the brewpub. Deep almost-black with a tan head. Big, roasty aroma of sweet malt, chocolate, and charred grains. Smooth body. Flavour - wow! - sweet and roasty with notes of coffee, chocolate and burnt caramel. Hides that 7.5% so well, it’s frightening. I could drink a lot of this. And then I would fall down. But I would be happy! blankboy (2625), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Feb 15, 2008 Draught at L’Amère à Boire. Pours black with an average size lasting creamy light-brown head -- looks wonderful. Mild aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, light green hops, molasses and some sweetness. Flavour, which is sooo easy to drink, of roasted malt, fruit, chocolate, coffee and and average bitter finish. Gets a little sweeter as it warms. Alcohol’s totally hidden. Medium bodied, creamy mouthfeel. Fantastic stuff, very well done!
