2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle, 33cl, Geers. Pours dark brown / brown. Clear / filtered? Head is white to beige. Nose not telling very much, partly vinous partly malty. Munich malts aroma, no burnt or caramel flavors, guess a colorant is used along with some spices like anise (subtle). Not bad and no flaws, but not thrilling either.

Standard Belgian blond beer. Has the usual traits of the style, but nothing exciting apart from that.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Deep burgundy with no haze at all and a good head of fine beige foam.
The smell is one of spices, sweetness and a hint of iron, caramel and apple. It’s the nose of a much stronger beer than a mere 6.2%.
The taste is full, less sweet and more spiced than the smell, medium carbonation. A glow that would put stronger beers to shame without being overly alcoholic, probably more the result of the spices than really the alcohol. There’s a slight sour touch as well. The full but smooth aftertaste brings malts and yeast in addition to the lingering spices.
Very pleasant surprise, especially considering it’s not such a strong beer. Very good overall, regardless of strength!

Clear red brown beer, big creamy light beige head, pretty stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: very spicy, banana, tomato sauce (yes, you read that correct), cookies (almond), caramel. MF: too much carbon, medium body. Taste: sweet caramel, fruity, little bitter, chocolate, banana, some dried fruits, bit floral, bitter hops. Aftertaste: green banana, sugary, little bitter, some mocha.

0.5 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 1/20
July 2008: Found on the huge beer list (under Winter brews) at Cafe Botteltje, Ostend.
Well out of date (the label went up to 2005, but wasn’t marked). This obviously doesn’t age well, read on.
A murky sludge slurped out the bottle, with an off white, scummy looking small head. An incredible aroma of farmyard manure came with the beer. This was one bad, old, nasty brew. A lesser man would have given up, but I soldiered on and drank the lumpy mix, just to annoy my wife. The sediment stuck to my teeth and I had to ask for a ’tandenstoker’ (toothpick) from the staff. I should have asked for a sweaty sock to drink it through I suppose, that way the bits wouldn’t have gotten into my mouth!
Needless to say, I didn’t have two and unless I see someone else pour a fresh one, I never will.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
33cl bottle shared with Dutchdrebus. Big white to off-white head that lasts for quite a while, amber-brown color. Smell malts, yeast, lightly grapes. Taste malts, some fruits, some herbs or spices which irritate me, some sharpness. Low to medium carbonation, low body.
