COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Lambics are truly the “wines” of the beer world. With wine one speaks of “gout de Terroir” because the land so influences a wine’s flavor. With Lambics, one must speak of “gout de Tonneau SM“ because each cask (tonneau) produces a lambic that matures and tastes different. Blending these Tonneau is such an art that there exist independent Geuzestekkerij (blenders) who buy young Lambic then age and bottle it under their own name.

Lambickx™ is Vanberg & Famille’s brand of hand-selected and blended lambics. Every Lambic with the Lambickx™ name is made from casks personally tasted and chosen by Don Feinberg, one of the first importers of Belgian beer to America and founder of the first Belgian-only brewery in the U.S. Don chooses his Lambics for their complexity, brilliance and drinking excellence both by themselves and as exquisite accompaniments to food.

On tap at the Brick Store Pub. Clear yellow color, with a small, bubbly head. The aroma is white grapes, minerals, and cloves. The flavor is sweet, with light tartness through the finish. Very light body, watery, and a little astringent. Overall, this is a weak, and fairly flavorless lambic.

Pours a clear gold on tap with just a thin ring of clear bubbles around the top. Aroma is sour funky must and barnyard hay. Taste follows with a clean finish, not overpowering, well balanced. I suppose I’m more of a fan of the American over the top style, bit this is nice, a bit expensive though.

10oz draft in snifter at SmallBar on Division in Chicago. Better deal than needing to buy 750mL at about $22 and not knowing what you are getting into. However, as soon as I sniffed this beauty I was very happy (not enough to buy a bottle but happy to have tried it. Aroma is beautifully gueuze-y with earthy brettiness and sourness. A bit of burnt rubber mixed in there to dry out the aroma, which I could just smell for hours. The flavor is not as bright and vibrant as I would like and as the aroma makes me think. Its a bit oily and body is not as effervescent . However, there is a really good dry aftertaste with lemon accents. The sour dryness lingers for a while. Love the aroma, love the aftertaste but flavor and body could use a little work. Would definitely drink a lot of this if it were affordable.

2012 bottle. Looks like I got one of the "still" bottles, opened with a very light pop and pours with no head. There’s just a touch of carbonation in the beer giving a light fizz on the tongue but unfortunately not enough to really throw any aromas at you. The aroma is of sour barnyard with a lemon zest background. Nicely balance of flavor, intermingling crusty white bread, lemon, and cherry pit. Pretty solid stuff, just not sure it was worth the $20.

2012 bottle shared by my friend josh. Pours a hazy gold with almost no head. Nearly flat. There are some white bubbles that form around the edge of the glass, though. The aroma is more on the funky side with a tannin like bitterness coming through in the taste. A little woody as well. Light to medium bodied. Crisp finish.

This bottle was flat...so hard to get past that. Hazy golden color. Aroma of vinegar, cheese, heavy funk. Taste was a strange mix of watery vinegar, barnyard, a hint of sour fruit. Poor carbonation which really hurt everything. Hate to judge on this bottle but blah.

Bottled. Pours Apple juice color with bubbles and Zero head. Flavor underwhelming with low carbonation, light barnyard.

2013 bottle poured into a tasting glass. Pours hazy golden with a white head. Aroma of bile, oak, funkiness, and weird fruits. Maybe a bad bottle or something but this is like bile. Average texture. Glad I didn’t pay for this.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled in 2012. Pours lightly hazy pale golden straw color with no head or lacing. Some light streaming carbonation from the glass . Aromas of big tart apple, lemon, pear, grape, leather, wood, clove, pepper, hay, straw, grass, wheat, musty funk, white wine, light vinegar, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of wood and yeast notes; with good strength. Feels drier and more oak/wood forward than most lambics I have had. Taste of tart green apple, grape, lemon, leather, clove, pepper, wood, hay, straw, grass, wheat, musty funk, white wine, light vinegar, and yeast earthiness. Fair amount of earthy/spicy tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of green apple, grape, lemon, leather, wood, clove, pepper, hay, straw, wheat, musty funk, white wine, light vinegar, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity and balance of wood and yeast flavors; with a moderately dry finish with no cloying flavors. Minimal carbonation and medium bodied; with a smooth, earthy, and slightly acidic mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice lambic style. Very dry with nice complexity and balance of wood and yeast flavors; and very smooth to sip on with no carbonation and light acidity. A very enjoyable offering.

Bottle (750 ml). From Scott, thanks! Clear straw color with a small quickly diminishing white head and no lacing. Aroma is of barnyard, honeyed cereals, light sweetness, lemon and light acetic notes. Taste is moderately sweet for the style with honeyed cereals, wood, barnyard, acetic notes and lemon. Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Slightly dry finish. Way better than the Wambeek/De Troch version. The carbonation definitely help. Not that much complex, but not dull either. Enjoyable. Average to good Gueuze.

bottle shared by tom10101, thanks bro. thankfully this lambickx popped. pours slightly hazy pale yellow with a small white cap, some retention and lacing. barny bretty, pineapple, syrup found in canned diced fruits without sweetness really (!), or just a dash of honey, oaky, slightly winey. lively yet soft carbonation, light to medium body, semi-sweet herbal-grassy-citrusy finish. it is really nice but not great.
