Lambics are truly the “wines” of the beer world. With wine one speaks of “gout de Terroir” because the land so influences a wine’s flavor. With Lambics, one must speak of “gout de Tonneau SM“ because each cask (tonneau) produces a lambic that matures and tastes different. Blending these Tonneau is such an art that there exist independent Geuzestekkerij (blenders) who buy young Lambic then age and bottle it under their own name.

Lambickx™ is Vanberg & Famille’s brand of hand-selected and blended lambics. Every Lambic with the Lambickx™ name is made from casks personally tasted and chosen by Don Feinberg, one of the first importers of Belgian beer to America and founder of the first Belgian-only brewery in the U.S. Don chooses his Lambics for their complexity, brilliance and drinking excellence both by themselves and as exquisite accompaniments to food.

Delicious and refreshing beer. Aroma was nice. Sour vinegar with hints of lemon, must and wet blanket. Pour was a nice light cloudy gold with a thin white film for a head. Taste was delicious. Heavy vinegar, hay and earthy with a lot of funk (sometimes it feels lik,e it’s coming up the nasal passages). Nice and tart but not overly sour like other gueuzes but still a great beer. Medium carbonation.

Bottle . Pours unclear blonde , small white head smell is way more sharp and intense than the other version , less funk . Taste is sour , brett , very dry , some butter . Tastes diluted . Low carbo . Not intense enough to be concidered a ’ real ’ geuze . Ok , but nothing more .

750 ml, no carbonation, completely flat, lots of cheese and barnyard flavors, smell is really bad taste is disjointed and all over the place. Definitely a crapshoot style and this one is crap.

Draft. Pours with minimal head, golden color. Aroma is slightly tart with some barnyard. Flavor is slightly tart with a honey like malt sweetness. Not nearly as sour as I thought. Some light cheesy notes going on as well. Ok but definitely would like more sourness to it.

I did not like this. Might have been a little better on a super hot day, bit taste is too sour, like lemon peel, and very funky. Almost like vinegar.

Draft @ Aromas in Athens, GA. Nice little surprise after a looong day of drinking. Surprisingly very little carbonation. However, the nose and flavor showed lots of barnyard funk. Sourness, earthy, horse blanket funk all over. Slight acidic, but the funk is all over. I wish the carb would have been higher to deliver a more welcoming palate. Probably lost .4 just due to this issue.

Bottled sample. Slightly cloudy yellow in colour with no carbonation. Aromas are of lemon curd, grass, and a bit of funk. Lots of mineral notes on the palate, along with lemon peel and white pepper. Not overly acidic, but the funk is still there. Similar to Cuvee Renee, but without the carbonation. Ok.

Pours a clear gold on tap with just a thin ring of clear bubbles around the top. Aroma is sour funky must and barnyard hay. Taste follows with a clean finish, not overpowering, well balanced. I suppose I’m more of a fan of the American over the top style, bit this is nice, a bit expensive though.

10oz draft in snifter at SmallBar on Division in Chicago. Better deal than needing to buy 750mL at about $22 and not knowing what you are getting into. However, as soon as I sniffed this beauty I was very happy (not enough to buy a bottle but happy to have tried it. Aroma is beautifully gueuze-y with earthy brettiness and sourness. A bit of burnt rubber mixed in there to dry out the aroma, which I could just smell for hours. The flavor is not as bright and vibrant as I would like and as the aroma makes me think. Its a bit oily and body is not as effervescent . However, there is a really good dry aftertaste with lemon accents. The sour dryness lingers for a while. Love the aroma, love the aftertaste but flavor and body could use a little work. Would definitely drink a lot of this if it were affordable.

2012 bottle. Looks like I got one of the "still" bottles, opened with a very light pop and pours with no head. There’s just a touch of carbonation in the beer giving a light fizz on the tongue but unfortunately not enough to really throw any aromas at you. The aroma is of sour barnyard with a lemon zest background. Nicely balance of flavor, intermingling crusty white bread, lemon, and cherry pit. Pretty solid stuff, just not sure it was worth the $20.

2012 bottle shared by my friend josh. Pours a hazy gold with almost no head. Nearly flat. There are some white bubbles that form around the edge of the glass, though. The aroma is more on the funky side with a tannin like bitterness coming through in the taste. A little woody as well. Light to medium bodied. Crisp finish.
