COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ale in Smoked Stout style. With an interesting colour of a friar’s frock, this beer is characterised by a thick cappuccino-coloured foam. On the nose, it has smoked notes recalling scamorza and toasting notes recalling coffee. In the mouth, it’s more delicate and features notes of liquorice, cocoa and dried fruit (carob) which come along with a delicate bitter taste due to the toasting of malts. 12.5°

Draft at the brewpub. Very dark, big foam, aroma is smoky up front, lots if sweetness, the palate is very smoky with layers of chocolate and brown sugar malts. Delicious stuff.

Definitely the best smoked beer I’ve had so far. Appearance, dark brown almost black. creamy thick head. Looks great. Aroma: chocolate, coffee with milk. Taste: milk choclolate, vanilla. A bit on a sweet side. If it would be a bit more bitter, I’d give 17/18 overalll. Quite low bitterness. Very drinkable. Just a hint of smokyness, which is not overpowering the whole taste. The smokyness gives nice salty contrast to the sweetness. Very good beer.

Bottled @ de Molen tasting, small sample. Dark color, short head. Aroma of roasted malts, hint of blackcurrant, some smoked malts, coffee, dark bread. Quite dry in taste, malty bitterness, not much sweetness. Much better in taste than in aroma actually. Very full bodied for just 5%. Nice stuff.

Dark brown with thick, creamy head. Aroma has light smoke and sweet caramel malts. It’s smooth and creamy. Bittersweet tastes of chocolate and mocha. Perhaps a bit too sweet.

Bottle at the March 2014 De Molen monthly tasting. Poured a clear dark brown with a foamy light tan head. The aroma is caramel, smoke, alcohol. The flavour is medium to strong bitter with a malt caramel, coffee, watery hop biter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Lovely aroma, tastes great, but falls away quite rapidly. A nice beer though and i’d be happy to have a bottle in my cellar.
