Lager in the Smoked Baltic Porter style. Impenetrable. Black in colour. On the nose, this extreme version of the Ghisa features toasting, coffee grounds, smoking, bitter cocoa and toffee notes, and a winy alcoholic component which accompanies the fragrance of alcohol soaked redberries.
In the mouth, it’s full bodied and corresponds to the sensations felt in the nose.
Meditative warming beer, the alcoholic impact is not as violent as expected.

Having a high alcohol content of 8.5% Vol. and the intense smoke aroma, this beer, from legendary Ghisa family, has brought fame to our Brewery. Today in Milan "El Ghisa" is a friendly way the citizens still call traffic officers; most probably because of old black uniforms worn by the officers that reminded of the colour of cast iron fountains. Besides, their top hats popular around the year 1860 looked like cast iron tubes of some German stoves traded in Milan at that time. 20°

Draught. Dark chocolate and plums, complemented by coffee and topped off with a not overbearing amount of peat. Soft, balanced, very tasty beer.

Bottle at a tasting in Portland-Oregon, many thanks to douglas88 for hosting and offering. Rough dark brown pour, unstable tan head. Nose: leather, mint elements and some smoke. Mouth: more rough notes, wild Imp Stout, some dry fruit, smoke again. Lovely. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: MAY 1, 2016 Very dark brown color, almost black, average sized tan head. Aroma of smoked malt, ham, roasted malt. Taste of smoke, roasted malt, herbs, dark chocolate, coffee, slightly watery... Maybe due to drinking it after 10% RIS. Bitter, maybe even too bitter. Medium body, soft carbonation. Good but expected even more.

330ml bottle. Very dark brown, almost black color. Medium size, brown head, stays. Woody, bit smoked, caramel, very faint toffee, alcohol in aroma. Sweet, woody, smoked, faint sausage, herbal hops in taste. Woody, fatty sausage and nettley hops in aftertaste. Covers alcohol well. Fatty sausages are nice. Hops are maybe bit too acidic, but actually won’t ruin anything. Nice one.

Bottle; BB 2021. Pours dark brown with moderate tan head. The aroma’s rather restrained smokiness and roasted malts, some pissy and earthy notes. Tastes sweet with a sour overcoat and warming bitter finish. Flavour’s smoky and roasty, chocolate and coffee. Doesn’t seem all too clean though. Pretty flat on the palate with little carbonation in the finish together with the slightly biting bitterness. Somewhat sticky. I quite like the smoky character of this, I normally don’t like smoked beers at all, especially when the smokiness recalls greasy sausages - here the smokiness is better integrated with the roast of the malts I think. It’s quite nice.
