On tap at Moeder Lambic Fontainis, Brussels, Saturday 21st March 2015 Yolky yellow unclear with a sticky white head. Really quite pithy and citrussy, nice bitter bite. Smooth in the mouth, dry and bitter challenging at times as there is very little sweetness. Good beer. A6 A4 T8 P4 Ov16 3.6

(Draught at Chez Moeder Lambic Fontainas, Brussels, 22 Oct 2014) Golden colour with frothy, white head. Malty, hoppy nose with notes of grain, citrus, grapefruit and lots of floral hops. Malty, hoppy taste with grainy malt, citrus, grass, grapefruit and a generous citric bitterness in a fairly dry finish. Medium body, quite dry. Fresh and tasty with a generous hop character. Very nice.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draught Rather fluffy, bit transparant head over pale straw beer with a greenish sheen. Raw hoppy nose, not very fragrant, more bittering than noble hops. Bit spicy, hoppy, medium bitterness in the mouth - not USA, it would seem. Light body, bit oily feel. Slightly disappointing in comparison to most hoppy J-J beers.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Keg at Moeder Lambic Fontainas - Brussels. Pours clear yellow-gold with a fluffy white head. The aroma holds moderate crackery pale malts, straw, grass, lemon rind. Light sweet flavor with husky malt casing, some dry hay, wheat flakes, grass, mild pine needles. Light to medium bodied with verage carbonation. Great balance. Finishes well, with just enough dry pale malts to balance out the fairly robust bitter hay and grass. Exceptional, classical Belgian ale.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Yellow golden, wattery with a childish white head. Nose:grain, yeast, malt, young and sparkling. compensates. Taste. Grain and malty. But, very drinkable. Enjoyable. Body is light, and easy going. Overall, nice, shall we call it ’housebeer’? Won’t order it again, but on the other hand... I don’t complain...

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
From draft at Moeder Lambic Fontainas in Brussels. Lightly hazed gold with a fine and lasting white head.
Aroma hops show with clarity the herbal-lemon-flower character that makes noble hops so remarkable, and this on top of one of the better malt aromas to be found (baked baguette, crackers, a little dough). Medium to medium-full body, lightly sweet, moderately bitter, crisp with quenching acidity, and clean, all hallmarks of exquisite lager but all showing well in this ale... the juiciness and oiliness of the hops on the tongue, the intoxicating effect of the aroma with a touch of pepper and sulfur / minerals, I could almost imagine this being Ganstaller Brau Pils in the middle of a big sniff. Soft and filling in the mouth, just rustic enough without being yeast-driven, and the creamy, fine carbonation is velvety and natural. Unreal balance and expression, this is a stunner of a 5% beer from Jandrain.
