Clear brown pour with a thin offwhite head. Pleasant aroma of peated, toasted and earthy malt along some caramel. The flavor is also pretty much about malt, peated, earthy and toasted, there’s mild dryness and some bitterness in the end. The body is light to medium with a creamy texture and gentle carbonation. I’ve never been fond of Scottish Ales, but this one is quite enjoyable.

In short: A bland extra-light caramelized beer. Not offensive but very forgettable.
How: Tap at brewpub
The look: Clear burgundy topped by a long-lasting small beige head
In long: Timid nose of caramel. Body is extra-light, somewhat watery. I know it’s a 3.6% beer but I’ve had many many below 4% beers that were not watery. Taste is watery berries toffee mixture. Some nice juicy three leaves almost save the day. Nothing else to say. As far as a below 4% beer is concerned this is obviously above average but overall this is very unremarkable and not something I want to have again. I understand that L’Amère à Boire Elephant line of beers are meant to be cheaper accessible beer. And obviously water is free in Quebec.

A dark brown ale with a light moka head. Herbaceous malt aroma, with nutty notes, and caramel. In mouth, a light session ale with nutty notes. enjoyable and light. On tap at brewpub, 14 Feb. 2009.

(Rating #2233)

Sample. Nice head, a bit sparse. Copper. Light malt scent with a bit of funk around the edge. A bit grainy, thin with some caramel.
