This is a great one. Pours a jet black with a creamy off white head of small bubbles. I think it was a nitro it was a nitro or not, but I never saw a rise,{I was sitting in back,, far from the bar} and carbonation was almost unpresent. I found the mothfeel to be a little to oily, and a little milky. Would probably be nicer on cask. Nose was mostly of dark roast coffie, with some presence of sweet dark chocolate and a little bitter dance. Taste is smokey and roasted, with a little burnt chocolate and a solid presence of espresso. Undertones are sweet cream, burnt almond, sweet grass, floral hops, bitter greens, and just a splash of a taste that makes me think "Chedar" Aftertaste is dry coffie, with a light milk chocolate presence, with a roastyness that lingers on the palat for quite a while. Very very good. Always a nice stout to end the evening with, thus guaronteeing a long silly walk to the night bus. Cheers.

Coffee aroma. Thick Chocolatey, creamy, from nitro tap. Beautiful black with mocha head. Taste which is roasty and a touch of smoke and expresso certainly covers alcohol. Full mouthfeel. A nice after dinner drink.

A pitch black beer with a thin "nitro" dense brown head. The aroma is slightly roasted combined with slight chocolate notes. The flavor is rather mild with notes of coffee, leading to a nice roasted dry end. Nice, but I’d like more power.

Deep black color, with a creamy tan-colored head, with roasted malt, chocolatey accent, hint of fruitiness, burnt toast aroma follows through on a full-bodied palate, with a smooth coffee espresso, mocha, even hint of vanilla, chocolatey pralines, roasted malt, black malt, leading towards a soft silky roasted bitterness finish.

Palette: Le corps est plein avec une texture crémeuse. Forte effervescence en bouche. Arrière goût de café. (Rating #296)

Cask at the brewpub
Dark black, nice head, light lacing. Nose of ripe roast, pistacios and plums. The flavor is balanced, lightly salt with some light astringency, no alcohol notes. The finish is also balanced, a bit stinging but a relaxes creamy tail.

On tap at the pub during the 2005 RBSG. Very dark beer with ruby highlights at the thin part of the glass. Very tight tan head like you would expect from a nitro pour. The nose was oily and chalky and reminded me of an old campfire site. Sweetish for an imperial stout with some berry hints, sweetened coffee and alcohol. Dry finish. Nice beer.
