COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular. Also available bottled.
Lancaster Black is a classic, traditional stout reminiscent of the beer typically found in Lancashire during the 18th and 19th century. Black combines a complex taste with a rich and full body. At 4.6%, Black may be dark in appearance but is surprisingly crisp with a full bouquet of crisp fruits, spices and floral aromas. Brewed using a combination of Cascade and Challenger hops combined with Chocolate and Maris Otter malt, Black is a stout for the true connoisseur."

Bottle. It’s black-brown with a creamy head. The aroma has sweetish spicy notes of licorice, caramel and light syrup. The flavour is moderately sweet with notes og spicy licorice, dark syrup, light rye-bread and the finish is slightly dry and bitter.

500mL bottle. Poured medium garnet-tinted brown with a short cap of beige head. The aroma picked up sweet honey and black patent malts, almost syrupy, with a little bit of toast accenting.. a little bit of fig deeper down.. not movingly complex and there was a little too much honey, but it was sweet and enjoyable. The flavor found honey and toasty black patent malts at the core.. more bitter than expected around, showcasing dry roast more than anything else.. a touch sour on the back-end.. like the nose, it was aiight. Light-medium bodied and sharper than it needed to be on the middle and back of the palate.. tacky at times.. drinkable, but not worth the $4.50 price of admission.

500 ml bottle, a Christmas present from my nephew Einar, thanks! ABV is 4.6%. Black colour, big to moderate tan head, nice lacing. Moderate aroma of roasted malts, some fruity hints. The flavour is crisp, fairly dry and moderately roasty throughout, hints of lemons (is Cascade in a stout really a good idea?). Very drinkable, but not the most impressive stout I’ve had.

Very dark reddish brown almost black colour with small tan head. Mildly roasted malt, liquorice, cough drops, dark fruits, salt and hints of coffee and fruity hops in aroma. Flavour is roasted malt, ash, hints of coffee and hoppy bitterness. Good Stout. Slightly thin though.

Bottle, courtesy of KimJohansen and Papsoe. It pours a reddish dark brown beer with a small, beige head. Roasted malts, licorice and some dried fruits in the aroma. A bit thin on the palate, with roasted malts, licorice, dried fruits and coffee in the flavor. Roasted finish. A quite decent one, typical English. Easy drinkable and tasteful. 100814

500ml bottle (K Kamppi)
7 Lovely chocolatey and spicy aroma.
5 Jet black, lovely tight beige head.
6 Burnt and sharp retronasals, quite estery. Taste quite simple, mostly burntness dominated, and a bitterness that seems to be due to that burntness. However, it’s not thin on the malty body, and there are clearly some hops contributing too.
4 Smooth palate, crisp carbonation. The finish improves on the taste - here the hops come back out again. Whilst in the mouth they’re dominated by the burntness, where they can form vapours they themselves shine, so we have the aroma back again, with some lovely citrussy hops.
13 This is no jaw-dropper, but it’s certainly a very good stout. For a pasteurised bottle, it’s very good indeed. Right up there with Entire Stout, perhaps.

Bottle, bought @ LIVA, Kolding.
Pours deep brown with a nice, medium, creamy, off-white head that lasts a good while. Aroma is mild, some English liqourice, milky chocolate and mild roasted malts. Highish carbonation, fine light and malty dry palate. Flavour is balanced towards chocolate and liqourice at first before a more roasted note finishes it off with good herbal and malty bitterness. Fine and quite drinkable.

Body is light to medium, malty and sweetish flavor, with notes of roasted malt and coffee. Short to average, malty and roasted finish. Quite thin bodied sweetish stout, no bitterness at all.

[cask at 2009 GBBF, Earl’s Court] Rich, dark-looking stout. On the aroma and the palate this one veers towards the chocolate end of the spectrum rather than coffee – which personally I prefer. Roasty malt on the finish. Very drinkable – an unknown quantity but a great find [06082009]
