blindeyedbetty (94), Arlington, Virginia, USA Mar 24, 2008 12 oz. pour. Golden copper with tight off white head that quickly dissipates leaving no lacing to speak of. Aroma of hops and citrus. Flavors of yeast in the front palate, strong pine in the mid and a mild malty finish. Huge bitter kick in the middle, like chewing on foliage - and not in a good way - but it’s just a punch and then...gone. Not one of the greatest IPA’s I’ve ever had and wouldn’t go out of my way for it, but would be easy enough to drink on a hot, muggy day.
Trooper11 (434), Suffolk, Virginia, USA Jul 10, 2008 Nice clear copper brew, foamy tan head. Aroma is very earthy, mahogany, deep malty sweetness. Medium bodied, molasses flavor, more malt fore notes then hops. More reminiscent of a brown ale then an IPA. Bitterness and hops are absent in its signature. Good brew non the less Butters (278), Richmond, Virginia, USA Jul 10, 2008 Pours a murky dark gold with nice tan head. Malty aroma, plum, and raisin. Hops are muted in the flavor, but evident in the finish. Has several barlywine characteristics. I think I must of had a well aged bottle. Very good. Beerman6686 (567), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 7, 2008 Poured a a pretty clear amber color with an off white head. Aroma is a little citrus hops and some malts. Flavor is also a bit malty for an ipa but has a nice bitter finish. studson38 (6), , Virginia, USA does not count Jul 7, 2008 I experienced this beer as I do most others, straight from the bottle. With that in mind, I can’t say a whole lot about the appearance, however I can’t say much for the taste either. I’m not particularly fond of the IPA style so my opinion should not be held in high regard. I found this beer to be just average with the typical bitter and rubbery aftertaste I so often experience with IPAs. The 8% alcohol content didn’t hurt but I still found myself rushing to finish this one. Biddle_Brau (86), Midland Park, New Jersey, USA Jul 2, 2008 Light amber color with slightly off-white head that left nice lacing. Mild citrus and malty aroma. Hop and malt balance did not impress me as balanced but more ‘muddy.’ On tap at The Shep’.
