We are proud offer one of the few surviving examples of this traditional English style sweet stout. A bold, dark ale bursting with roasted barley dryness and mellowed by hints of chocolate and coffee.

Drought at International Great Beer Expo (Meadowlands). Dark brown, spongy tan head, roasted malt aroma, slightly bitter coffee taste, long finish. Not as sweet as you’d expect from a milk stout.

Poured from 12 oz. bottle at Middle Eastern Cuisine in Takoma Park, MD. Opaque, brown-black with a tan head and very good lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate and light molasses. Taste of chocolate, caramel, and sweet roasted malt. Medium/light body and medium/low carbonization. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

One finger espresso crema head, black in color. Aroma of chocolate and roasted malt. Taste of roasted malt, molasses, some coffee, lite bitterness. Creamy, lite carbonation. After the initial taste the beer looses flavor and it just falls off. Good beer but missing something.

6 pk purchased from the brewery. Pours medium bodied with ample head that lasts throughout. Smells of medium roast coffee beans, hot chocolate powder, faint vanilla bean. Taste is sweet, earthy, surprisingly pronounced smoke flavor. Faint carbonation that decreases with temp increase. Subtle fruitiness - cherries? berries? A really good, exemplary milk stout.

A: Pours a black stout with, as anticipated, no light coming through. single finger latte head dissipates over a minute or so leaving a scattered spotting of the same. S: A big spread of butter on the beer. Some anise, molasses, resin. Okay nose, nothing special. T: Oaty, creamy, dark fruit (plum/fig), some bing cherries in there as well. For a stout, this isn’t really doing it. It’s drinkable, but not particularly impressive. M: Medium body with high carbonation. Only slightly slicking, but then dries. O: Below average IMO. Tasting at Bruce’s pad. Thanks to Colin. Almost clear dark brown beer with a small pale cream coloured head. Palate is light, airy and a little soft. Light airy malt, touch of roast. Dry lactose. Finishes airy and dry. Meh!

FROM NOTES: October 21, ’13. A: Semi-sweet chocolate, milk chocolate, nuts and coffee. A: Pours a nearly pitch black a two finger khaki shade head. T: Follows the nose, albeit slightly subdued. Roast grains lead the way with firm cocoa notes but they aren’t as decadent as the nose suggested. Some dark fruits, toasty, nutty and earthy hop notes also present. P: Medium body and a lot of carbonation for a stout. O: This is a good beer, not a great one, I was expecting a little more in the after-taste and a bigger mouth-feel and the somewhat sweet taste I have had in other milk stouts was not there.

Bottle cheers to Colin. Pours clear, dark brown with a small, beige head clinging around. Nose has loads of ash and lactose, bitter forward cacao nibs, rich biscuit and light aniseed. Taste is big and sweet focusing on the milk chocolate type notes, rich espresso bitterness, fairly ash driven and creamy. Solid stuff
