Ungstrup (11713), Frederiksberg, Denmark Aug 22, 2004 Updated: Jan 1, 2007A pitch black beer with a small brown head. The aroma is sweet with notes of chocolate, coffee, and roasted malt. The flavor is slightly sour with powerful notes of roasted malt, chocolate, and coffee on a dry background. omhper (10950), Stockholm, Sweden May 7, 2004 Bottled. Very black with creamy off white head. A nose full of chocolate and café au lait. Sweet with soft, filling, malty but clean mouthfeel, and a salty bitter finish with some pleasant grassy hops. Well balanced and really enjoyable. kp (6300), Woodstock, Georgia, USA Sep 1, 2007 Date: 03/17/1998
black, wispy tan head that can be roused into a thick brown mass, roasted malt aroma with a slight tartness like soured milk, sweet and sour malt flavor, light roasted character, bad sample?
argo0 (6289), Washington DC, USA Apr 12, 2004 Thick tan head atop a nice black body. Aroma is sweet, mocha, some nutty, light vanilla. Taste is mild up top, before strong roasty coffee hits midbody. Medium body lacks the creaminess the name suggests. Rastacouere (5418), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Sep 23, 2005 Almost black, producing a generous light brown head, lasting and foamy. Straightforward, but full and focused chocolate milk aroma hints at coffee and sweet dark malts. The restrained roastiness I can see working well for pairings with desserts. Perhaps leaning a little bit too much on the sour side, remaining herbal doing so rather than citric, thankfully. Creamy palate, medium bodied, slow-witted carbonation. Well done, devoid of any flaws, but I’ll need much more to fall in love with a sweet stout, not exactly the most inspiring style in my book.
