We are proud offer one of the few surviving examples of this traditional English style sweet stout. A bold, dark ale bursting with roasted barley dryness and mellowed by hints of chocolate and coffee.

Bottle shared at Bruceís in London - thanks to Colin. Pours clear brown with a creamy tan head. Lots of milk chocolate and brown bread in the nose. Medium sweet flavor with plenty of lacto character, more milk chocolate, some semi-dark fruits. Light bodied with fine to average carbonation. Sweet finish, very little bitterness, brown bread, faint lacto tang, milk chocolate. Fair.

Thick tan head atop a nice black body. Aroma is sweet, mocha, some nutty, light vanilla. Taste is mild up top, before strong roasty coffee hits midbody. Medium body lacks the creaminess the name suggests.

Bottle from Vintage Cellar. Dark brown/black pour with an ephemeral tan head. Aroma is mostly coffee. Maybe a little nutty. Medium body with mild carbonation. Flavor is smooth burnt toast, hints of fruit, and coffee. Finish is relatively dry and coffee. Not getting much in the way of chocolate. However, I am enjoying it.

A: The pour is a dark, dark brown color with a thin layer of tan foam. S: The nose is not very pleasing at all. There is some roasted malt, hints of chocolate, and a slight sweetness. However, there is also something a bit "off" about the aroma that I canít quite pin point (maybe a touch sour?). T: The flavor is a slight improvement over the nose with some decent roasted malt and cream flavors with a touch of sweetness. I canít say that itís especially good though. M: The body and carbonation are about standard, with the body being a touch thin. D: The pedestrian flavors and rather unpleasant nose really put me off of this beer. I think I would pass on this one if offered it again.
