blindeyedbetty (100), Arlington, Virginia, USA Oct 26, 2007 12 oz. bottle. Poured opaque black with little head. Sweet malty aroma - almost molasses-like with hint of coffee that gets stronger as it breathes. Body is much thinner than I expected. Flavor of strong coffee and extremely bitter finish with dry, roasted aftertaste. To me, this tastes almost like really bad, really old coffee made into beer. Very unpleasant finish and aftertaste. The best thing about this beer for me was the aroma, which belies the thin body that follows.
unclemike (425), Ft. Riley, Kansas, USA Dec 3, 2008 pitch black with reddish head that leaves quickly, smells of roasted malts and chocate slight alcohol smell when warmer. A toasted nutty base topped with more like bakesrs choclate than hops. really great beer made in the land of the amish. Haslinger (567), Syracuse, New York, USA Dec 1, 2008 12 ounce bottle. Good subtly sweet aroma, not too overpowering. Nice chocolate coffee flavor with a bit of a bitter aftertaste that lingered for a while in a good way. I liked this one. Would buy again NaturalIce (97), originally from Michigan, New Jersey, USA Nov 26, 2008 12 oz bottle; Typical sweet stout aroma with hints of coffee. The ’sweet’ is the first sensation you get when drinking this beer and is probably what turned me off slightly. The finish is much better with chocolate and coffee notes that unsweeten the beer overall. Decent beer but not my favorite style of stout. brew4fun (137), West Virginia, USA Nov 1, 2008 Deepest ruby in color, when held up to the autumn sun. Short head dissloving to a thin ring rather quickly, leaving no traces. Lightly aromatic, of roasted and chocolate malts. Flavor has an earthy bittersweet quality, dark chocolate bitterness overlaying the lactose component, just a little sour(?). Adequate but not powerful flavor, lightly carbonated, rather thin body. Easily drinkable, a decent stout. smjohnst (175), , Pennsylvania, USA Oct 27, 2008 Very nice stout. I guess it did have a hint of milk or lactose in there but it was just a good solid stout. A nice chocolate and coffee kind of finish to it.
