Great beer. Has to be a favoutite (even though it is not my highest score... go figure?) Could stay on this all night... but shouldn’t. At 4.9% dangerous strength with sessionable qualities.

Pretty good brew. I let the bottle warm up a bit out of the fridge first. Poured an average sized, light tan head that settled down quick and a little lace. Color is a clear red amber with plenty of active bubble trails. Aroma is malty, toffee, caramel, some milder dark ripe fruits, a little hop. Flavor’s almost exactly the same with some bittersweet flavors coming out. Good body and carbonation. Finish is like flavor and is extended. Session beer.

Cask conditioned at Far from the Madding Crowd, Oxford. Red brown with white head. Rich dry bitter, fully flavoured, hoppy with fuller roasted malts. Some malt sweetness in the body delivering a touch of alcohol. Good bitter finish.

Bottle. Deep rust brown with a generous tan head. Nice smells of malt, toffee and rich caramel. In the mouth, the sweet caramels come to the fore with a slight metallic tang and some fruitiness. Picking out plum and a little apricot. The finish is mild, but pleasant and leaves behind a lasting sweetness and bitterness.

UPDATED: APR 17, 2013 Lovely initial aromas out of the bottle. Dark chocolate, Espresso and cranberries on the nose. Palate pretty feistily bubbly but overall well balanced flavours taling off with slight hoppiness, digestive biscuits and a lovely bitterness

Cask@the avion, aldridge. Dark reddish brown beer with small head and decent lacing. Aroma of dark malts and toffee. Taste is dark fruits, dark bitter chocolate hints and treacle malts. I enjoyed this one.

JDW, Rochester. Roasty premium bitter. Pleasant soft sweet malt and a decent fresh hop finish - touch of nettles. Yummy.

500 ml bottle, a Christmas present from my nephew Einar, thanks! ABV is 4.9%. Copper coloured beer, moderate off-white head, nice lacing. Moderate malty aroma, notes of bakery and caramel, hints of red fruits. The flavour is fairly malty with distinct notes of caramel and brown bread, in a blind test I might first mistake this ale for a German dunkel. The earthy hops in the finish are more pronounced than in most dunkels, though. A very drinkable beer!
