Made with eight different malts, four types of hops, and a touch of Lancaster County molasses, this tasty brew has a rich brown hue with a medium to full body flavor.

Location: Draft at Hopsscotch, 1/17/14

Aroma: The nose is chocolate malts, roast, toast, molasses, and a little smoke
Appearance: It pours a dark brown color with a light brown head and a small ring of head
Flavor: The flavor is sweet and roasty, brown sugar, molasses, roast, and a little smoke
Palate: The body is medium, it has a somewhat creamy feel, and a medium dry finish
Overall Impression: I thought that this one was a pretty tasty porter. Pretty nice stuff, though there are some flaws present for sure, I enjoyed it.

Tap at World of Beer Baltimore. Pours clear dark brown with a small, frothy off-white head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is toast and cookie malt, dates, and earthy hops. Flavor is malt dominant with dark fruits, light hops and bitterness with a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.

Dark brown and plenty of head. Pretty basic, but nothing to complain about. Rich, semi-sweet chocolate taste, toasted hop, light alcohol noticeable. Medium body, nothing to really capture it and set it apart.

On tap at brewery, tasty beer. One of their more complex beers, decently balanced. Full body, great for season, good smooth finish. The beer taste very fresh, roasted malts, slight hop flavor. Slightly sweet, caramel, coffee flavor. I would buy this again in the bottle.

ROGUE (2099) - Newark, Delaware, USA - JAN 7, 2011
On tap at brewery. Poured a dark mahogany color with a one finger creamy light tan head that diminished to a thin ring and left light lacing. Aroma is dark roasted malt with a touch of brown sugar and molasses. Flavor with sweetness up front with a biscuit malty flavor. The molasses and brown sugar sweetness shows in the middle with some roasted qualities. Finish is really different and very dry with a slight hop bite to it. Medium bodied with a creamy but somewhat thin texture.

Pours dark brown, moderate head. Flavor/Aroma is slightly less spicy/fruity than other molasses porters I’ve had, so it must have been applied with a cautious hand (although I love the idea of a shoe fly porter, if only its essence could be captured in a beer.) Still a bit sweeter than their Baltic, with some ale characteristics that I don’t really think add too much to a beer of the darkness.

On draught at the brewer. Pours deep ruby with a lasting tan head that leaves soapy chunked lace. Nose is of chocolate with deep, deep molasses notes. Roasted malt on the tongue with some light coffee and cream, a touch of vinous notes and finishes with a roasted coffee bean... spot on, by the way. The body is medium and the palate is extremely drinkable. Well-integrated and a neat take on the porter.

on tap @ Capone’s Dark tan with a thick two-finger, mocha head. Nose is molasses, brown sugar, roasted barley, malt and chocolate. Taste is what I should have expected, having had shoo-fly pie - molasses and brown sugar with some bread and chocolate. No false advertising at work here! Finish was a welcome slight bitterness. Mouthfeel was All together a decent beer, but not one I could drink a lot of.
