4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 mike mcneil (660) - St Augustine, USA - JAN 8, 2009
Pleasantly surprised with this tasty Winter Warmer. Pours a ebony brown color. Forms a solid 2" creamy and thick light tan head with superb retention. Thick rings of lacing adhere to the sides of the glass. Rich and fruity aromas of raisins, figs, dates, molasses and brown sugar are noted upfront with some faint notes of coffee and caramel. Full and thick mouthfeel; very smooth and creamy. Flavor profile is predominantly sweet with lots of dark dried fruit, balck licorice, molasses and burnt caramel candies. Just a touch of hop bitterness and well hidden alcohol emerge to tame the sugary sweetness. For $8.99 per sixer from Stateline in MD this is a great value big winter ale.

Bottle. This is a delicious winter warmer/old ale. It reminded me of Anchor’s Our Special Ale. Anchor’s OSA is better, but this did remind me of it, which is a step in the right direction. The molasses/dough scent was sweet from the start and finished with a carmel beat. Dark brown appearance with a thin head dissolving to a white ring, and a thick, sticky palate, very sticky. The caramel came back up front in the taste, settled into the doughy bread note, and finished nice and warm. A solid offering from Lancaster. I’m excited to see what this place comes up with in the future.

Aroma, malty, slight hop, no spice at all very dark amber brown, taste very malty, I thinks needs some more hops to balance, does warm you on the way down, IMO the rich malt profile is the main reason, overall, not bad, would not go out of my way to buy, but would get again
3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Kuzo (109) - Allentown, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 29, 2011
Pours a chestnut brown with full tan head. Smells of fig and molasses and a bit metallic. Molasses flavor with sweet malts and raisin. Somewhat boozy and some slight hop bitterness. A lighter heavy body and sticky mouthfeel but surprisingly quite drinkable. Its a good beer but not really my preferred style.

Poured from bottle. Caramel coffee notes in aroma. Dark solid mahogany color, tan head. Caramel, milk chocolate, banana, nut in flavor. Slight coffee notes in back. Alcohol well hidden. A hint of cherry. Silky feel. Gets even better as it warms. Good stuff.

Cola brown with a half-inch of dense light brown head. Aroma is light molasses and ginger, with a hint of pine. Taste is mostly the same, with a bit of raisiny residual sweetness, and a smooth, borderline oily mouthfeel. $2.5/12oz

Intriguing aroma of dark fruits, specifically figs and dates with a wisp of raspberry. Flavor is malt driven. Dark fruits, raisins, and toffee lead the way. Rich body, with a slick feel and a tingle of alcohol warmth. I could see myself sipping on this next to the fireplace on a cold wintery night.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 Bricks (347) - Delaware, USA - DEC 4, 2011
Fruity essence overtook the aroma and taste of this one. This one lacked character.. molasses / cough syrup flavors. Was still drinkable, just a bit overrated.

Bottle. Pours close to black with a tan head that dissipates quickly. There is some lacing left throughout the beer. Smell of caramel, coffee, chocolate, nuts. Taste is medium sweetness, with raisins, cherries.. some other dried fruits.

Very malty with a nutty caramel sweetness. Raisins, cherry, figs in the taste as well. Better as it warms up a touch.
