4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pleasantly surprised with this tasty Winter Warmer. Pours a ebony brown color. Forms a solid 2" creamy and thick light tan head with superb retention. Thick rings of lacing adhere to the sides of the glass. Rich and fruity aromas of raisins, figs, dates, molasses and brown sugar are noted upfront with some faint notes of coffee and caramel. Full and thick mouthfeel; very smooth and creamy. Flavor profile is predominantly sweet with lots of dark dried fruit, balck licorice, molasses and burnt caramel candies. Just a touch of hop bitterness and well hidden alcohol emerge to tame the sugary sweetness. For $8.99 per sixer from Stateline in MD this is a great value big winter ale.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a half finger, tan, creamy head. Dark brown color with a reddish tone. Smells of molasses, dried cherries, caramel, sugar and some faint nuttiness. On the palate it is medium-full bodied and creamy tight. It has a solid malt base that's on the sweeter side that's making me think of cherry Ludens. Backed up with peat, earthy hops and nutty in the back. This beer is solid.

Great winter warmer. Subtle spices deep flavors of malts and some barley. Sweetness is light and finished warm like promised. Plus benefits the local wolf preserve. You can’t go wrong.

Bottle from Wegmans. Aroma is spice, cinnamon, nutmeg, malt, pine and hop. Taste is the same. A touch of yeast and alcohol. Some Belgian qualities to it. More hoppy than I would have thought. Good character. Definitely a warming winter brew. Similar to Brrr from Widmer.

Thanks to my nephew Sean for this beer . Excellent spice and dark malt aftertaste - very piney taste and palate. Reminds me of anchor christmas beer and yards poor Richards.

10/30/2014. On tap at the brewery. dark brown with a tan head. Malty caramel aromas, hints of booze, dark fruit with a sweet malty finish. Very good, but not something I could drink a lot of.

Transfer from BA review on 12-13-12-
Served on tap in a 10 oz chalice glass
Appearance – Served a deep ruby color with a one finger off white head. The head faded over a moderate amount of time to leave a decent lacing.
Smell – The aroma is heaviest of a mix of dark fruit aromas and some caramel with the dark fruit being mainly of a raisin and prune in nature. A light nutty, Christmas spice and boozy aroma round out the sweet aroma and create e nice smell overall.
Taste – The taste begins with a malty and doughy flavor mixed with a strong raisin and prune flavor. Spice flavors come to the tongue quickly with some of the sweet transitioning from the dark fruit to a more caramel nature. Flavors of spice and some alcohol then start coming to the tongue more toward the middle and the end. A light bitter hoppy flavor also comes to the end and leave a nice warming flavor to be left on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the medium to full side with a carbonation level that is average . This feel is very nice for the lightly boozy, malty, spicy and bitter flavors of the brew, letting all to be detected, but yet keeping any from overwhelming the flavors of the brew.
Overall – A quite delicious and nice warming winter ale. Quite nice.
