Bottle thx to Sune. Hazy and dark brown in colour with a rather large head. Has kind of a belgian feel to it more than barly wine. Quite malty and sweet with notes of nuts, caramel, spices and yeast.

dark brown, vegetale, raisins, brown sugar and dark chocolate. Dark fruit, brown sugar, dry. Hides the booze pretty well, but hits you shortly after. This would make a great marinade for red meat.

Purchased at La Cave a la Bulles in Paris, FR; enjoyed at home on a nice mid May Tuesday night. Appearance is a very dark ruby brown / black with a modest and fizzy off white head. Aroma of plum, port, caramel, vanilla, really nice and apparent nose. Taste packs a punch, can definitely taste the 11% ABV; dark fruit notes going down, thick mouthfeel, rich in raisins, almost to the point of overpowering, finishes dry. There’s a lot going on with this one and I wouldn’t consider this a barley wine, more like an abt quad. Still good stuff.

Pours deep mahogany into a snifter. Mocha head with little retention recedes to hug rim. Toasted caramel aromas. Medium bodied with sweet pit fruit and toasted caramel upfront turning to raisins in the lasting finish.

This is more like it. Rich, vinious and opulent. Perhaps missing a bit in flavour profile, but a nice effort.

@ Saint Eugène Stout and IPA festival. Black colour, aroma of roasted malts. Also a bit sour. Sweet (sugar candy). Aftertaste isn’t long.

dark dark brown, decent head for a short while. Very malty, some roasted malt, Licorice, hit of soy sauce and chocolate, some either woody or smokey notes but very subtle, sweet but with decent bitterness and some alcohol heat in the finish. Enjoyed it a lot, nice surprise.

Bottle from Le Comptoir Irlandais, Poitiers, France. An extremely dark brown-black beer that pours without a head. It has a creamy mouthfeel with vanilla, whisky, red fruit and soda cream? flavours followed by a smooth spicy, warming finish.

Dark brown and beige lace. Mild aroma, dark fruits. Light fruits, aromatic, sticky fruit flavour but the mouth feel is well rounded off. Rich taste with well hidden alcohol, but not thick or concentrated. Different than I expected. Nice. (At Deanso?s tasting, bottle from trade in Paris)

Bottle at a Ratebeer "sticky floor" tasting, Den Haag. Poured a dark mahogany with a glass hugging tan head. The aroma is liquorice and spicy. The flavour is bitter spicy and alcoholic. A very drinkable beer but not for a session.
