2013-06-01. Black body with a nice brown head and lace. Aroma is sort of herbal, leafy green notes dry mild roast. Flavour is interesting. First sip is a bit of a kick in the pants, big first impression with dry light roast and coffee like undertones, sweeter malt middle, herbal anise like notes in the finish. 7+ Alcohol is present throughout but restrained for the strength. Very smooth average bodied palate, soft carbonation. Nice stuff, but much better suited to a winter fire than a hot summer patio! Bottle at Mondial de la Biere 2013, Montreal

330ml bottle served in a Leffe chalice. A: Pours a brown color and a big beige head is formed. Retention is medium and old very few lacings are left S: Sweet. Coffee and dark chocolate first, followed by dry dark fruits like plums and raisins. Caramel and roasted malts T: Follows the nose. Coffee and dark chocolate are a must. Also roasted malts and yeasts. Dark fruits. And a nice earthy bitterness can be felt. Very well balanced sweet-bitterness M: Full molasses body. Medium to low carbonation O: Very easy drinking despite the 11% ABV. Great beer. The best French beer I’ve ever had [ BA Review @ 3/8/2012 ]

It’s an imperial brown ale. Lots of alcohol burn. Good malt profile, needs time to mellow out.

Bottle: Poured a light brown color ale with a nice off-white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of caramelized sugar with light cereal notes is quite pleasant. Taste is also dominated by some caramelized malt notes with minimal residual sugars and some nice cereal notes also noticeable. Body is about average with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Not the most complex barleywine out there but very interesting nonetheless.

A deep dark brown barley wine with a thin mocha head. In aroma, sweet fruity dark malt with dark fruits, molasses, alcohol warmth, light peated notes, plums. In mouth, dark fruits, molasses, vinous character, plums, alcohol warmth, nice. Bottle from La Cave à Bulles.

[5450-20130601] Sample. Nutty cola malt aroma. Black body with a long-lasting creamy tan head. Sweet bitter roasted bread malt flavour has a bold sweet aftertaste. Full body. Interesting. (7/3/7/3/14) 3.4

Bottle sample at a tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Thanks Vova and Stas. Murky brown, quickly dissolving yellow head. Dried fruit, some cinnamon and clove, date honey aroma. Sweet, date honey, then some malt and a little toastiness in the mouth. Too carbonated, medium-to-full body, fruity finish. Not bad.

Aroma has dark fruits, brown sugar, molasses, some roast and alcohol. Black coloured beer with a beige head. The taste is sweet, bit sticky. It has dark fruits, molasses, caramel mainly. Medium bodied. Quite a nice beer.
