Formerly known as Rothenburger Landwehr-Bier Dunkles Landbier.

Bottle. Dark brown color, tan head. Aroma isn’t jumping out at me, toasty caramel malt aroma and flavor. Soft and clean for a dunkel. Possible slight oxidation.

Pretty average dunkel, nothing really stands out. Roasted malts, sweetish. Good carb. Very good, but nothing special. Very easy drinking.

Bottle: Amber coloured, mid-sized, slowly collapsing off-white head; delicate sweet-malty nose, with a touch of roasted malt and a metallic tinge; light sweet-bitter flavour, light bodied; a bit lingering bitter-malty finish with faint caramelly notes. Just another average Dunkel.......

(bottle) Clear, chestnut colour with a slightly off-white foamy medium-sized head. Medium-sweet toasty, slightly bready malty aroma with notes of caramel, chocolate and marzipan. Moderately bitter, slightly bitter flavour, light to medium bodied with a for some parts fizzy, almost sharp carbonation. Toast-malty taste, light notes of caramel with herbal hops; dry, toast-malty, moderately bitter finish with notes of chocolate in the aftertaste. Okay, but not overly pleasant.

Bottle, 5.2% as Landwehr-Bräu Dunkel. Weak aroma, a little sewery. Clear dark brown colour. Small head. The flavour is quite mild, not that malty. Like a pale lager with a little dark malts at the end. Solid, but not exciting.

Better than the Toppler Pils. More depth of flavor with the expected maltiness: caramel and coffee. A little thin but not a bad beer at all.

A Mes rate: 50cl bottle from Quinns. Sweetish milk chocolate with a slight hoppy bitterness. Slightly roasty and almost smokey. Clean mouthfeel. Just nothing that I can get excited about.

Bottle, bought at the brewery, just named "dunkel". ABV is the same. malt and milk chocolate in the aroma. Thinnish but flavorful. Malt, cake dough, roasted malt, milk chocolate. More body and this dunkel would be world class. Now it is just a good beer.

Germany, Nov 2003. Head is initially small, fizzy, off-white, mostly diminishing. Body is light brown. Aroma is moderately malty (caramel, coffee), lightly hoppy (herbs). Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Drinkable, but not really impressive.
