An interpretation Biere de Garde made with 30% wheat.

Belle blonde qui titre 7°, composée de malt d’orge et de froment, quelques épices lui donnent un parfum d’agrumes qui font sa notoriété depuis plus de 30 ans.

Bottled, 750ml cork & caged from Carrefour, Coquelles, France. Gold with white head. Light, fresh bittersweet type beer, didn’t get any wheat hazing, this was hoppy, fruity, sherbert lemon with a kiwi fruit type background. There is a decent depth and it is really quite pleasant. Long bitterness in the close. I like it.

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Light golden pour with a white head. Rich orchard fruit nose. Plenty of apple and pear in there. A bit of pineapple and banana in there too. Flavours of pear, peach, tropical fruit, pineapple and ginger. Nice, sweet taste. Pleasant.

Opened after the Emelisse Oktoberfest had finished. Bought at Les Fleurs du Malt in Lyon, France. Loads of carbonation and a sweet brew with quite some hops. Nice and fruity. Somewhat sugary but still with quite some hops all over. Nice brew.

33 cl bottle. Pale gold with a high, fine head. Spicy, malty, creamy aroma. Fruity, with strawberry and melon, and some butter. Sweet, buttery flavor, lots of esters, bit malt, coconut? Something tropical. Spicey, with a decently bitter finish, but too creamy and buttery. Nice enough hops, though.

Bought this at the La Cave à Bulles in Paris. Pours a hazy yellowish/gold color. Aromas of tart fruit, bread, hint of citrus, and yeasty. Flavor is malty/citrus. Leaves a yeasty orange aftertaste. Almost like a Belgian Wit.

Bottle. Brilliant yellow with a loose, diminishing white collar. Attractive, zesty aroma with notes of lemongrass, green herbs, mown grass, banana, pineapple, marmalade and sherbet- hard to tell what comes from wheat, yeast, spices or hops, and I like that uncertainty. Good grassy and marmalade tang, perfumey but not overdone ground coriander; tinned apricots and cream, good bittering balance. Enjoyable stuff all round.

Finally another Bière de Garde stocked at a local supermarket - I swear if these French people would just up the distribution they could get some better visibility, but then again, maybe they don’t want that. Pours beautiful yellow with huge head. Aroma is hops, corn, grass, alcohol. Taste is kind of a grassy-syrup, malty and caramel. Not on the top of my list.

33oml . A cool bottle label with two hill-billies looking depressed . Sets a good tone for this country ale. Aroma is ceral. earthy grains.minty hops ..fruit salad ..some ovbious malt , yo can tell’ it’ll be sweet tasting and some raw alcohol up the nose.
Refreshing de’ garde..you can feel you’re drinking rural France in liquid format. It opens with some earthy herbal flavour ,leading to rich syrupy sweetness. Dry spicy, minty hop bitterness , Saison-esqu. Some peach ester ,I reckon. A good, eazy to sink de’garde .
