3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Fin (5749) - Merton, Oxfordshire, England, - MAY 5, 2011
Cask, gravity at Banbury Beer Festival 05.05.11 I was directed to this by Glen and I have to say it was a very pleasant start on the beer front. It lacked the crispness and bitterness that I would have like and that the description suggested, and yet it was hoppy with a good bittersweetness (more sweetness) quite soft in the mouth. Very decent tasty beer. Pours golden, touch floral on the nose, safe & steady but good. A6 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.5

Bottle from Wye Vale garden centre, Bicester. Pours a pale golden amber with a slightly grey-white head. It has quite an intense dry bready pale malt aroma with a small citrus edge. Thin to medium bodied, and the flavour is a real surprise. With the name ’Hip Hop’ I really would have expected a hop-forward beer however the fruity hops and biscuity malts are incredibly well balanced but also quite distinct. Neither dominates the other. A dry biscuit aftertaste has a little orange tang. Very nice.

Very pale gold, coarse white head. Lemony hop nose, nice hoppy yet soft malty palate, only the crispness matches the colour!

Bottle. Orange with a small white head. Appears almost still. Aroma of oranges, flowers, light biscuit. Taste has some biscuity malt and is really quite sweet before oranges and lemons. Crisp finish.

Pours clear pale amber with a small, quickly fading head.
Nose shows big toffee, butterscotch and caramel notes as well as some earthy, resinous hops.
Similar flavours, more toffee along with some bready malt and those earthy, spicy hops. Finishes a bit weakly.
Body seems watery, could do with more carbonation.

Golden color with thick chalk white head.Lemon perfumy nose. Very pleasent nose. Malty backbone, lemony flavor. Nice, but not enough hops. Mild bitter finish. Meh.

GBBF 2011. Pale golden bitter with floral hops on the nose. Light body with medium finish, perhaps surprisingly sweet and lacking the bitterness I’d have expected from the style.

Cask at The Sportsman, Amberley, West Sussex. Pours a clear gold with a spare lasting creamy white head. Nice aroma of citrusy hops and bready malt. Delicious hoppy flavour (hard to find here sometimes), reminds me of some of Ontario’s hoppy cask beers. decent bitter finish. Average bodied. Best beer I’ve had in the U.K. yet, simple but great! (By the end of the trip it was still one of the best beers I’d had)

Cask (GBBF2011, Wed)
Slightly lemony hop aroma. Pale, small head. Boring light malt body. Finish is very very dry, and a little papery. Dullish, but adequate.

Bottle. Golden with a thin foam. Aromas are lemon with biscuit malts and some leafy, floral notes. Caramel with pear. Flavours are sweet citrus with dry nettle leafiness. Mixed Autumn fruit with a dusty, dry hoppy finish.

Cask at GBBF 2010. A yellow beer with a thin beige head. The aroma has notes of lemons. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt and lemons, leading to a dry and bitter finish.
