TBone (5172), Pori, Finland Nov 4, 2005 Bottled (BB 03/2006)
As III-version of this one was much better than the last year’s Christmas beer from Hartwall, I was anxious to sample this one - usually brand name "Lapin Kulta" means to beer fanatic in Finland same than Bud for Americans.
Color is typical Dunkel-reddish brown. Off-white head dissappears quickly. Aroma is roasted with brown sugar and hints of rye bread. I even find some Abbey Dubbel kind of fruityness there. This is medium-bodied with taste of licorice and roasted malts. Finish is a bit salty and slightly harsh, maybe metallic too but not annoying. Currently the best beer under the Lapin Kulta -brand, hands down.
Jukkabro (2468), Tampere, Finland Feb 20, 2006 Deep dark amber colored, little white head. Sweetness, malts, caramel, mild chocolate and nuts in aroma, also thin alcohol comes up. Medium bodied. Mild burned sugar, sweetness, caramel in flavor, aftertaste is sweet with with roasted, mildly hopped and alcoholic tones. oh6gdx (6460), Vaasa, Finland Nov 15, 2005 Bottled. Dark copperish/amber colour, with mediumsized foamy beigeish brown head. Aroma of caramel, rye, chocolate and alcohol. At first not much flavour, but then a huge peak of sweet caramellish malt with some hints of chocolate, and hops in finish. Ok brew, though I think I would choose the III version if I bought more of this. bierkoning (5077), La Tropica, Netherlands Aug 27, 2007 Bottle from Tbone . Brown color, cloudy. Chocolate and raisin in the strong aroma. Porto flavor. Sweet, sugary, yet thin. Seens a bit oxidated, but tastes good enough. Cinnamon. Loads of flavor in the beer, that somehow tastes rough, sugary and cheap. But the aroma is nice. sayravai (3224), Helsinki, Finland Nov 8, 2005 (Bottled) Clear, reddish-amber color with a tight, foamy head. Quite mild, slightly sweet, malty aroma with toffee and a hint of chocolate and alcohol. Sweetish, caramely-malty flavor with moderate hopping and chocolate hints. Alcohol is very well hidden. Medium-bodied, smooth and slightly syrupy palate with quite low carbonation. A very smooth and reasonably full-bodied, maybe a bit too sweet-sugary dunkel.
