2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 DeanF (1489) - Iqaluit, - FEB 4, 2010
Pours with plenty of head, nice hazy orange, but again too much carbonation to be perfect. Aroma is plenty of hops, grassiness, stench of fermenting vegetables of some type. I would have preferred a little sweetness in there to make it a little more appealing. Taste is malts, slight caramel, lingering syrup, woody hints on the back as it then comes to an end with a bitter finish. Like so many new French microbrews, it needs some refinement and closer care and attention to become truly amazing.

0.33l bottle. Pours a near murky orange body packed with dark sediments and it has a nice big bubbly off-white head. Aroma is really champagne yeasty with some citrus and sour green grapes. Tastes quite much sweeter than the nose would have me to believe. Has a nice medium body, average carbonated and feels light oily in the mouth. Mild and light sweet flavors, some malts in here as well as some fruits and it has a mild almost chocolate-like flavor. Ends light dry with a mild yeasty aftertaste. Quite surprised that it tasted like this after smelling it, but I liked it, and I’ve tasted my first Bière de Garde.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 sebletitje (4413) - Enghien, BELGIUM - FEB 23, 2011
