2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Nekronos (2655) - Xalapa, MEXICO - SEP 6, 2006
The bad thing about working on a festival is that you cna only taste the beers in the place of work. This was really bitter but not annoying. Good foam and good golden colour too.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 harrisoni (10070) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - MAY 30, 2006
Cask gravity at Crabble Corn Mill BF 2006. Amber colour, no head. Quite a refreshing bitter. Good hop which makes it quite sharply bitter especially on the finish. Some floralness.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Ungstrup (24024) - Oamaru, NEW ZEALAND - DEC 8, 2005
[Cask at Volunteers Arms, GBBF 2005] A hazy orange beer with an off-white head. The aroma is sweet hoppy, and besides being sweet hoppy the flavor also has notes of caramel, and a dry end.
3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 chriso (7065) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - AUG 1, 2004
Canterbury Beer Festival, with SilkTork. Appealing copper/bronze colour. I wasn’t as keen on this one as ST. I don’t like that butterscotch diacetyl aroma and it seems to occur at festivals in beers that are not yet properly conditioned. Apart from the butterscotch, the aroma had some green fruit and an odd smoky undercurrent. Soft mouthfeel with some hops and a bit of toffee. I think this one would have been better with an extra day before serving. Still pretty reasonable though. Cask (gravity dispense).
3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 SilkTork (4738) - Rochester, Kent, United Kingdom, WALES - JUL 24, 2004
UPDATED: OCT 16, 2005 July, 2004. Canterbury Fest. Butterscotch and apple aroma. Beer was clearly not in the best of condition, but, like the other Larkins, still managed to shine. Toffee and apple flavour. Good mouthfeel. Soft and natural. Integrated hop balance. Clean, dry, dusty bitter finish. Splendid. Larkins do seem to make good traditional beers to a very high standard. It’s a shame that the only product that will be available at this year’s GBBF will be their weakest offering, the Traditional Ale. [3.8]
Oct, 2005. Good Intent, Rochester. Big on flavour, yet balanced, integrated, soft and drinkable. A wonderful malty beer with the hops well soaked in. [3.7]
