Cask at London Drinker 13.3.14. Another for the dubious ’black ipa/ porter’ decision board. I’d argue this one could sit either side, but regardless it was very decent, and with such a high acid hop like apollo they are justified in calling it ipa. Nice thin black appearance with a warm aroma and little fizz. Taste is quite bitter, almost sweet and salty, with less of the citrus notes you’d get in an ipa, but a strong increasingly grassy bitter finish which is quite welcome. Really good stuff - one for an autumn night.

Cask @ London Drinker Beer Festival 2014. Another new London brewery for me and it’s not too bad. Malt focussed with a dash of citrus.

Bottle from Good Taste Food and Drink, Crystal Palace. Black pour with an off-white head which soon dissipates. Low carbonation. Aromas of blackberries, raisin and licorice. Flavours of licorice, chocolate and berries. Sharp hop finish.

Cask at Ivy House. Pours clear ruby brown with a small sticky khaki head. Nose is quite coffee forward with a little bit of ash and citric hops. Taste is woody and coffee with slight burnt undertones followed by citrus and light jammy apricot. A decent BIPA

Cask, The Salmon, Leicester. Near black with a beige foam. Aromas are nutty with coffee and dark chocolate. Grapefruit with woody notes and pepper. Creamy with peppery spices. Flavours are bittersweet dark chocolate with gritty, nutty coffee and a pithy grapefruit bitterness. Some traces of plastic. Nice, though.
