Bottle. Pours dirty blonde with a slight white head. Mildly sour aroma. Medium body with foamy carbonation. It is rather sour. A nutty oil coats the mouth. In the finish there is chestnut. A rather confusing series of events. Certainly a different sort of beer.

2.5 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Feb 2010: Dumpy 33cl brown bottle obtained from the Bierboom biershop in Brugge. This beer was poured carefully into a Westmalle chalice, I didn’t want too much sediment in the glass. Towards the end of the tasting I added the remainder of the gist/sediment from the bottle.
Châtaigne is French for Chestnut, this is a Blonde beer flavoured with the said nuts.
The beer looked weak and nasty, a misty, dirty off-yellow/gold colour. On top sat a white collar and a wispy covering of scummy white small bubbles. The colour grew darker with the added sediment of course.
The smell given of was certainly different, a mix of Belgian yeasts, Chestnut essence and cat sick. I think I expected roasted Chestnut flavours, there was no hint of toasted or roasted anything in this beer.
The taste followed the aromas, without to much cat sick I’m pleased to say. Sharp and fairly fizzy on the lips, the flavours mellowed as the beer warmed a little in the glass and you could sence and feel the Chestnuts come into their own somewhat, maybe I should have allowed all the sediment into the chalice at the begining?
All in all a strange beer, glad I’ve had one.

Pale-yellow cloudy and fizzy. Literally zero head. Weird. Bananas, nuts, flowers, sweet sugar. Too fizzy and sweet for me.
