22oz bottle. Very dark bown pour with webs of dark tan head. Aroma is chocolate coffee and smooth. Flavors are also well blended and smooth. Good body. I would love to drink more of this if the alcohol wasnt so high.

Pour out of 22 oz bottle, dark black pour with tan head, aroma brought notes of dark chocolate, roast, slight coffee, hints of earth, slight grain, hints of acidic malt. Taste is a mix of acidic malt, roast, green coffee, hints of chocolate, roast, slight earth, finishing fairly bitter, dry.

651 ml. bottle. Pours a thick, tiny bubbled, well retained, beige head, with extensive lacing, over a clear dark brown (SRM 30) body......nose is medium coffee, lighter chocolate, minimal esters and hops......taste is moderate coffee, hints of chocolate, leading to a dry, moderately bitter, roasted malt, hop bitter finish......mouth feel medium, slightly sticky, alcohol warmth present, carbonation makes a light acid. As is so typical in beers with added coffee, which although used cautiously compared to many, is still somewhat too dominant. The result, hiding some of the other characteristics of both aroma and flavor. It is a good beer, but just too much coffee. BJCP 7/3/14/4/7

Deep opaque pour with dark tan thinning head. Aroma is strong dark coffee & raisin. Flavor is very sweet with brown sugar, chocolate and coffee undertones. Finish remains sweet, slight alcohol presence, a touch of hoppyness. Wonderful coffee porter.

Bottled 30MAY12 Buddy has always raved about this one since working at the brewery. Pours a dark brown with a transient quilt of mocha foam, which falls to an etched surface with a slightly rising central dome. Smells of coffee, leather, cocoa, some roasted and toasted malts and a hint of fig - nice nose. Really soft flavor up front, not nearly as assertive as Id anticipated; the beer shares coffee with a sharp bitterness, some slight woody oxidation and hunks of cigarette, cocoa, and soil. Silky smooth with low carb at the medium on heavy mark of thickness. This is a pretty decent offering. Id like a bit more coffee, which surprises me as Im usually a hint only kinda guy. Wife would like this one quite a bit. Serving type: bottle 08-22-2012

Aroma has hint of coffee and booze. Very nice frothy head and lacing lays well. Taste has is a roasted malt flavor, light bitter booziness, slight chocolate and coffee flavor. Coffee flavor is light, but has a nice coffe grain taste on the finish.

Pours pitch dark brown, with a dark tan head. Aroma of coffee and malt. Taste is rich and smooth, with heavy notes of coffee. I like this beer, thumbs up!

22 ounce bottle
At $1.99 on clearance I pulled the trigger thinking this could not be that bad. I was very mistaken. It must have been a bad batch because the bottle split by three of us was mostly a drainpour. I wont give up on Laughing Dog but I will be more careful with their releases in the future.

Aroma / Appearance - Slick legs slip up and down like sheets of ice. A mocha head is unremarkable. The nose ruins an average presence with green pepper and spices as well as a complete lack of balance.

Flavor / Palate - Tangy green peppers are not what you want in a beer. Unfortunately this has that taste in waves. Hidden underneath are smooth coffee aspects and malty hints of salvation. Id love to give this a second chance since it could have been a bad batch.

Draught at Lexington Beerworks. Wasnt sure they were even still in Kentucky. Dark pour. Licorice. Light chocolate. Overall, light body for "imperial."
