4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
22oz bottle, dated 5/23/12, from grape & gourmet. pours a hazy, dark, chestnut brown capped by a dark beige head that leaves thing rings of a lace around the edges. aroma is great with all manner of roasted coffee, mocha espresso, weasel poo, earth, and dark chocolate backed by subtle vanilla, nuts, and a hint of toffee. flavor is wonderful as well with dry, roasted, bitter coffee, espresso, milk chocolate, and lactose sugar backed by salty almonds, caramel, and dry, earthy hops. palate is medium bodied with smooth carbonation and a dry, mocha finish. overall, a damn nice imperial porter.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
22 ounce bottle
At $1.99 on clearance I pulled the trigger thinking this could not be that bad. I was very mistaken. It must have been a bad batch because the bottle split by three of us was mostly a drainpour. I won’t give up on Laughing Dog but I will be more careful with their releases in the future.
Aroma / Appearance - Slick legs slip up and down like sheets of ice. A mocha head is unremarkable. The nose ruins an average presence with green pepper and spices as well as a complete lack of balance.
Flavor / Palate - Tangy green peppers are not what you want in a beer. Unfortunately this has that taste in waves. Hidden underneath are smooth coffee aspects and malty hints of salvation. I’d love to give this a second chance since it could have been a bad batch.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark brown beer with a medium beige head that lasts. Nose of bitter chocolate, cinnamon, and brown sugar. Flavor is strong with a rich semi-sweet coffee punch up front, followed by molasses, caramelized nuts, and a roasted bitterness. The after taste is predominately the roasted flavor. Lighter bodied than expected for the style, this is a good beer that coats the palate.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark brown pour with ruby highlights. Dense tan head, nice lacing. Pretty foamy, as foam began oozing out of the bottle neck even though I'd opened it gently.
Medium mouthfeel, fairly high level of carbonation without being overly bubbly.
Roasty, slightly sour tang, brown bread, coffee, cocoa.
Roasty malt, slightly vinous, sherry. Coffee, cinnamon.
Nicely balanced. The tangy sourness was an unexpected bonus. I quite enjoyed this one and will seek it out again.

22 oz bomber This was purchased at Capital Ale House in Innsbrook. The porter poured a deep black with huge beige head that slowly dissipated . This porter with a lot of coffee flavor. The roasted malt aroma with notes of coffee and chocolate. The taste was full of roasted dark chocolate with notes of licorice and coffee. The finish was of sweet chocolate and coffee. Big time porter.
