3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
1 Pint Bottle. Let me start by saying GREAT BEER...!!! I really enjoyed this one. Poured dark brown with a HUGE tan head. Aroma of Roasted malts Maybe a bit of chocolate but definitely some hops. Taste is very IPA like (and that’s a good thing) sweet a the beginning and bitter towards the end. IMHO very well balanced, very easy to drink and definitely one that I would be looking forward to drink again.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
This Cascadian Dark Ale (or Black IPA) is good. Not the greatest example of CDA. Lighter body, decent balance of hops & malts but just a little too light for my taste. Light brown in color, good cream head. 8.05 BD 7Rod

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a moderately dark color with a white head that quickly disappears once poured. There is a nice aroma of hops, alcohol and some minor floral notes. Tastes of medium bitterness, nice residual flavors reside on the palate. Overall not bad, but not my favorite black IPA.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
January 19, 2013 - bottle shared by BVery. Dark brown pour with huge head that lasted. Strong citrus hops in aroma with some roasted malt. Taste was consistent but had some piney hops as well. Very nice for the style.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bomber from Surdyk’s. Very dark pour with a huge fluffy head with great retention. Citrus hops - and an aroma that reminds me of a lot of Jolly Pumpkin stuff. Crisp but balanced. Good beer.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from CoOp Bellingham, WA
The bottle is gushing a bit, quite a rare event for American beers and for this style; it has therefore a very large head, but rather compact, beige colored, while the beer is dark brown nearing black; nice lace too. The aroma is a nice combination of black coffee and resiny hops, with an impression of citrus fruits. The mouthfeel is dry and smooth; good flavor of roasted malts, without excessive burnt character, and well integrated with a quite strong bitterness, and loads of soft hop resins and hop oils; long final.
Very drinkable; excellent example for the style.

Good dark color with a large not overpowering hoppy aroma. Nice caramel head. Nice balance. One of my favorites.

1.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20
Bomber: brown pour with a thick tan head.
Aroma is woody, nutty, vinous and somewhat sour. This beer off?
Flavour is sourish fruit, nutty dusty chocolate.

2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
12. oz bottle. Pours with a thick brownish head that does last. Looks dark brown in appearance, dark but not opaque. Aroma of roasted grains. A little chocolate. Some hop aroma. Tastes sweet up front. Bitterness in the end. It was OK.

4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Not a big fan of black IPAs. However, this one comes across more like an IPA. At 6.9% ABV you’d expect a jolt but the balance overcomes the higher ABV. Love the appearance and nose. The dark roasted grain does does not dominate the flavor like a lot of black IPAs
