2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours dark brown with a very thick tan head. Aroma is very earthy - not all that pleasant. Taste is also earthy - not noteably hoppy or malty. Pretty blah. As someone who generally likes BIPAs, this one is a letdown.

12. oz bottle. Pours with a thick brownish head that does last. Looks dark brown in appearance, dark but not opaque. Aroma of roasted grains. A little chocolate. Some hop aroma. Tastes sweet up front. Bitterness in the end. It was OK.

Pours a dark cloudy copper with huge fluffy head that leaves lacing - faint floral hop aroma - slightly bitter on the palate with a medium body - good brew!

It pours A darkbrown red not completely black with a thick tan head that sticks around a laces the glass nicely. To the nose it smells of fresh cut grass and I really pick up on the hops that I would expect from an IPA. First taste is crisp and clean and then the bitterness and tang of the hops stick around for a while. Overall I think this is a decent IPA that I could drink on a regular basis, as for it supposing to be a merger of an IPA and a stout Iím still way more partial to Deschutes Breweryís Knight Rider IPA. Donít think Iím knocking it at all it is decent beer.

Brownish head with a dark but clear body that allows more light to pass through than expected. Roastiness in the aroma mixed with candy like caramel malt coming through. The hops show up after that, but not potent enough to turn it bitter. I prefer this to other black IPAs with bigger hop kick but suspect some hop fans will think it's not enough.

On tap @ TFD. Fragrant citrusy hop. Smooth mouthfeel. Dark, dark ruby color. Slight chocolate-like backbone. Good bitter bite. The beer that looks like a porter, but tastes like an IPA, beautiful!

Dark IPA from the tap. Nice flavor. Nice head. Lacing isn't overly present. Not a session beer. Great flavor.

1.2 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 4/20
Aroma- smells terrible for an ipa. Definitely an aroma present, but smells atypical of northwest ipaís.... More like a damp, mildew filled basement or something.
Appearance- looks nice, not black... Dark brown with a tan rocky head.
Taste- offensive to my palate. Maybe this was infected or something. Phenolic, plasticy... These terrible off flavors cover up anything that may be good underneath.
Palate- lacking in body and way over carbonated. Slightly astringent.
Overall- I can hardly believe that this is a commercial beer. When I saw the score of 90, I was floored. This beer is a drain pour. The only reason why I drank half of it was for these tasting notes. I seriously want my 4.50 for the bomber back. Awful!

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Aroma - A delicious chocolate root beer
Appearance - Thin dark ruby brown with playful head, light lacing
Flavor - Pretty good balance of malt to back up the hop. Thin clean finish, but this is acceptable to me for an IPA, not over bitter, but a little bite is present in the end.
Overall - I enjoyed this brew because it had the characteristics of an IPA and carried the taste of a stout as well. Im not a big fan of stouts, but i enjoy the flavor, here you get that flavor in a lighter IPA style.
