Formerly Tail Wagger Black IPA
A Big Bold Hoppy IPA that finishes with a dark twist.
True to its IPA roots Dogzilla has a massive hop presence that is Piney and Citrusy. A malty backbone, along with the dark malt gives it a bit of a roasty finish. Brewed with Simcoe and Cascade Hops, Pale Malt, Munich, and Black Barley.

Appearance has a nice dark brown amber color supporting a thick supporting head leaving fair lace. Smell has a nice balance of the malt and citric piney hop aroma. Taste is predominant black malt coming through with the sweeter palt malt coming through balanced by the hops. Mouthfeel is medium with good carbonation. One of the more enjoyable BIPA Iíve had.

From a bottle. Excellent dark IPA. Strong hops flavor, with a gentle dark roasty malt finish.

night black with a lovely head. smell is intense and intriguing... very citrus hoppy with a tiny little bit of the roast malt coming through... the balance almost creates a fruity aroma (not yeast fruity...) taste is citrus/pine hoppy up front then finishes with a pretty bitter dark malt taste.

A great looking beer in the glass. Thick, tan pillowy head. Redddish, molasses color, transparent with some light bubbles. Mild aromas of sweet, mildly smoked roasted grains, a bit of bananna and bittersweet chocolate. More malty than hoppy, a nice departure from what you expect. Taste is fairly sweet up front, rolls to a mildly bitter, bite of sour finish. Refreshing, yet it bites back a bit on the finish. Slightly fizzy, with a slick finish that stays around. I would say this is a very nice departure from the usual IPAís recently. Not overpowering in the hops flavors, well balanced, would go well with any beef or bbq meal. Nicely done brew.

very sweet smell, similar to that of fruity milk. very dark colored, mostly brown with a little bit of red and orange. has a sweet flavor as well that is pleasing but difficult to identify. has a very full, maybe even overly busy finish. has a very strong hoppy flavor and is quite bitter. B

Poured a deep black color with a large white head. the head was different considering it was a black color. Aromas of biscuits and pine. taste of chocolate and cascade hops. a neat beer indeed.

Pours a moderately dark color with a white head that quickly disappears once poured. There is a nice aroma of hops, alcohol and some minor floral notes. Tastes of medium bitterness, nice residual flavors reside on the palate. Overall not bad, but not my favorite black IPA.

Looked great out of the 22oz bottle. Nice thick off-white head that had good retention and laced the glass nicely. Dark brown color with ruby highlights. On the nose, Iím getting pine-y and resiny hops mixed and actually more in the background to the roasted malts. On the tongue it has a medium body with a roasted malt tasted that lingers after the beer has gone down. The hops come out more in the flavor as does the roasted malts, coffee, and bitter chocolate. I donít think Iíll be grabbing this one again any time soon.

Way overrated. This beer was ice cold when I had it so that might have stifled some of the flavor but nothing really stood out to me. This beer isnít horrible but I expect more from a Black IPA. Go ahead and skip.

22oz. bottle. pours dark chocolate red with pretty massive head. the head gradually wilts like an erection after blowing the mass wad. roasted malty caramel smoked aroma...bitter. deep malty pine sharpness then creamy hard hop slightly smokey after taste. would drink again, but not on the regular...
