Formerly Tail Wagger Black IPA
A Big Bold Hoppy IPA that finishes with a dark twist.
True to its IPA roots Dogzilla has a massive hop presence that is Piney and Citrusy. A malty backbone, along with the dark malt gives it a bit of a roasty finish. Brewed with Simcoe and Cascade Hops, Pale Malt, Munich, and Black Barley.

Appearance has a nice dark brown amber color supporting a thick supporting head leaving fair lace. Smell has a nice balance of the malt and citric piney hop aroma. Taste is predominant black malt coming through with the sweeter palt malt coming through balanced by the hops. Mouthfeel is medium with good carbonation. One of the more enjoyable BIPA Iíve had.

A great looking beer in the glass. Thick, tan pillowy head. Redddish, molasses color, transparent with some light bubbles. Mild aromas of sweet, mildly smoked roasted grains, a bit of bananna and bittersweet chocolate. More malty than hoppy, a nice departure from what you expect. Taste is fairly sweet up front, rolls to a mildly bitter, bite of sour finish. Refreshing, yet it bites back a bit on the finish. Slightly fizzy, with a slick finish that stays around. I would say this is a very nice departure from the usual IPAís recently. Not overpowering in the hops flavors, well balanced, would go well with any beef or bbq meal. Nicely done brew.

Looked great out of the 22oz bottle. Nice thick off-white head that had good retention and laced the glass nicely. Dark brown color with ruby highlights. On the nose, Iím getting pine-y and resiny hops mixed and actually more in the background to the roasted malts. On the tongue it has a medium body with a roasted malt tasted that lingers after the beer has gone down. The hops come out more in the flavor as does the roasted malts, coffee, and bitter chocolate. I donít think Iíll be grabbing this one again any time soon.

Way overrated. This beer was ice cold when I had it so that might have stifled some of the flavor but nothing really stood out to me. This beer isnít horrible but I expect more from a Black IPA. Go ahead and skip.

Wow, how did this get rated ad high as it did? This beer has a weird corriander/pine/black pepper taste to it. Almost not an ipa? Call it your winter brew and I would understand. Never thought id meet a black ipa I didnt like but I did. Almost has a farmhouse taste to it, but wait...i like farmhouse ales? Is this the first black farmhouse ipa? (keep in mind, I rate my beers for what they are , like ipa , porter, black ipa, ect., ect. Im rating this as a black ipa. Its not a bad beer, just not a black ipa.)

On tap at The Front Door Dark reddish brown with an almost non-existent beige head. Interesting aroma with citrus from the hops and caramel from the malt. Not something Iím used to in a beer. It took about half way through the beer before deciding it was great. My palate kept getting confused on what I was drinking. A porter? An IPA? It was like mixing the porter thatís on tap at my house, and the homebrew IPA in bottles. Doesnít sound like it would be all that good. It is. But it definitely has to grow on you.

22 oz bottle. pours a deep, oily black with a big tan head. aroma is definitely hoppy, with a nice balance of grapefruit and chocolate malt. flavor is a nice blend of dark malts and piney hops. enjoyed this with one of my favorite Thai meals and the balance between the spice of the curry and bite of the hops was perfect.

Bottle. Aroma was skunky. Turned me off of this beer right from the start and it went downhill from there. Taste was awful and could not finish it. One of the worst that I have had.

Nice hoppy bitterness with just the right amount of sweetness. Pours black with a thin beige head. Not thin. Not thick. Juuuust right John The Beer Snob---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
