Formerly Tail Wagger Black IPA
A Big Bold Hoppy IPA that finishes with a dark twist.
True to its IPA roots Dogzilla has a massive hop presence that is Piney and Citrusy. A malty backbone, along with the dark malt gives it a bit of a roasty finish. Brewed with Simcoe and Cascade Hops, Pale Malt, Munich, and Black Barley.

Poured from the bomber. The head is intense, four finger, wtf. Couldn’t pour easily. Aroma is mild and unfortunately tainted by my previous beer. The flavor is dark malt and hop, pretty nicely balanced the way a cascadian ipa should be.

Bottle from CoOp Bellingham, WA
The bottle is gushing a bit, quite a rare event for American beers and for this style; it has therefore a very large head, but rather compact, beige colored, while the beer is dark brown nearing black; nice lace too. The aroma is a nice combination of black coffee and resiny hops, with an impression of citrus fruits. The mouthfeel is dry and smooth; good flavor of roasted malts, without excessive burnt character, and well integrated with a quite strong bitterness, and loads of soft hop resins and hop oils; long final.
Very drinkable; excellent example for the style.

A good beer, but for the style, just above average. The problem is that this is too unbalanced. The malty notes strain to gain prominance, and there is very little roastiness that I come to expect from this style.

Not quite black with big head. Lots of piney hops and bitterness. Slight nutty sweetness balances, but never comes close to catching up w/ the hops. Love it.

22. Pours black with some ebony brownish highlights and a thick, surging dark gray/tan head that falls away fairly quickly. Nice big sweet pine nose with a little grapefruit under it. Creamy medium body with well-placed soft carb. The mid-palate is glorious; roasty and sweet and shot through with lots of bitter pine resin. Long bitter finish. This is a beautiful beer. Like to know how strong it is; one bomber has me pretty woozy but I worked out pretty hard today so take that with a grain of salt.

22 oz bottle. pours a deep, oily black with a big tan head. aroma is definitely hoppy, with a nice balance of grapefruit and chocolate malt. flavor is a nice blend of dark malts and piney hops. enjoyed this with one of my favorite Thai meals and the balance between the spice of the curry and bite of the hops was perfect.

22oz bottle from Travisd13. Pours dark brown with a medium size offwhite head, some lace. Smells very hoppy and nice citrusy with undertones of dark, roasted malts. Tastes big and hoppy, bitter grassy with some dark citrus flavors as well. There is a nice backbone of dark roasty malts that blends nicely with the hop flavors. Medium body, great carbonation and umm that bitterness, so good. Great brew, get some if you can.

Received a 22-oz bomber from Liquid Solutions in Oregon. Pours a dark clear cola brown brew with a thick and lumpy beige head that leaves behind some excellent lacing. Aroma of multi-citrus zest, grapefruit, dark chocolate, toasted dark malt, a touch of toffee and roasted nuts. Taste is medium to full bodied, light carbonation with flavors of grassy hops, dark chocolate, a touch of grapefruit and some toffee. Finish has a mild bitterness with a good balance of dark chocolate and grassy hop character. One of the first dark IPAs I’ve tried and could easily use this one as a base comparison to others. Well done!
