I am just a huge fan of this beer. This particular one I am having is a 2009 Bourbon Barrel aged and the bourbon flavor just gives it that extra kick. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark as night, a wonderful example of the style!!! Let it warm up a bit for the full effect.

With all the hype surrounding some other stouts on the market, Iíve been itching to try this one. From Laughing Dog Brewing, in Idaho, this is The Dogfather. Described as an imperial stout aged in old bourbon barrels, and 10.85% abv, this should be fun! The Dogfather pours out as black as molasses (if not darker) and almost syrupy. The foam is a dark coffee color, which fades fairly quickly, but doesnít disappear. The foam sticks to the glass a fair bit, but without the typical "lacing" look. The nose is full of rich butterscotch, toffee, caramel, molasses, and even some dark chocolate. The nose isnít sweet though, it lingers somewhere between the malty sweetness and hoppy bitterness. On the palate, the Dogfather definitely has a little backbone of chocolate. The boozy nature from the bourbon barrels comes through on the palette nicely, without being over-powering. Just like the aromas, this fits beautifully between hoppy and malty. There are some nice notes of sweetness, as well as just the right amount of hops. This is really the first stout Iíve ever really been a big fan of. I mean, Iíve like other stouts in the past, like Southern Tier Choklat, but never had one that I really, really liked. This Dogfather is quite enjoyable. It is sweet enough that I donít mind taking another sip, dark enough that I feel like Iím drinking a real beer, and bold enough to keep the beer-sissies away from my glass.

Pours pitch black with some darkish brown fizz. Smells of chocolate, bourbon, and hints of vanilla. Taste has bourbon characteristics, coffee, hints of chocolate, and some oaky dryness. Full-bodied with a smooth texture and soft mouth-carbonation, Laughing Dog The Dogfather Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout finishes with dry oak characters with a bit of hop and funk.

The Dogfather is jet black in color, with hardy notes of chocolate and toffee complimented by dark fruit and vanilla spices with a significant bourbon backbone. This is a smooth, extremely well balanced beer, and despite the bourbon presence, the alcohol content is well concealed. http://www.billysbeerblog.com/2011/01/il-cane-

Bottle. Gigantic pour of thick black beer with a towering pile of brown, tight foam on top. The aroma is as thick as chocolate milk with a stinging whiskey tinge. This drinks with an airy body (even the glass is lighter than you think itíd be). But the flavor is rich with complexity, licorice, plum, cabernet, and the requisite whiskey kick. Beautifully exquisite. (#3962, 8/7/2010)

From the bottle. Pours black with a nice brown head. Definitely can smell the bourbon oak. Roasted malt, coffee, and dark chocolates round out the aroma. Low carbonation and smooth mouthfeel. Great flavor of oak, vanilla, and burnt toast. Well balanced with a mild black bitterness. Hops are more noticeable as beer warms, but still balanced. Well done.

Poured at a good temperature with an average sized, tan, foamy head that slowly settled and lots of lace. Color is an absolutely opaque black brown. Aroma is molasses, roast, malt, toffee, cocoa, fruit, licorice. Flavorís like nose, but with a hint of the bourbon and it really rounds out the picture so much better than the other version of this beer. Body is perfect, ditto carbonation. Finish is of average length, like flavor, and easy drinking. A masterpiece.

Bottle from Total Wine. Poured pitch black with a massive beige foam that never really went away. Delicious aroma of cocoa, bourbon, vanilla beans, hints of ash, roasted, burnt wood, but with dark fruity sweetness lurking in the background. Very well balanced, and easy to drink, a pleasure on the palate. Dense body with plenty of carbonation. Creamy, milky finish where the hops peak their head out, but then mellow out into a roasty, vanillaish aftertaste. No sigh of alcohol in the taste. This is a really good one!

Dark tan/red head. Smells of bourbon and coffee. Tastes of coffee, licorice, vanilla, bourbon and finishes with dark chocolate. Not too heavy for the style. Very flavorful, very good. Itís a keeper.
