3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bomber into snifter glass, jet black with a finger of dark tan head. Aroma of dark fruit, fresh fruit (berries), roasted malt, chocolate, caramel, light coffee, vanilla, caramel and anise. Taste adds notes of smoke, burnt marshmellow, coconut, milk chocolate, licorice and some wood. Heavy body, low-moderate carbonation, creamy, rich with lingering roasty char finish. A smoke-chocolately BA IRS, quite tasty.

Black pour, moderate to small tan head, decent lace/retention. Aroma is chocolate, vanilla, bourbon, light roast, lesser notes of darker fruit. Medium to full bodied, somewhat thin mouthfeel, lacks complexity but still pretty tasty.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Draft at ChurchKey, 4 ounce pour into a mini snifter. Pours black with tan head. Aromas of bourbon, coconut, vanilla, oak, dark chocolate, caramel. Tasting notes of bourbon, vanilla, coconut, dark chocolate fudge, oak. Good barrel aged stout though I think I prefer the non-barrel aged version.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Lightly bretted. SMell is mostly oak and cocoa, slight brett. Brett is more prevalent in the flavor, htough it isn’ sour, just slightly medicinal. not terrible despite its infection.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured from bottle into imperial pint glass. Pour was dark, thick, oily. Quite a bit of dense tan foam that faded to a thin layer. Lots of lacing and sheeting as consumed.
After pouring let it warm in glass for a bit. Aroma is bread, coffee, chocolate, walnuts and bourbon. Lots of sweetness but balanced by malty bitterness. Lots of coffee flavor here along with dark chocolate. The nearly 11% ABV is VERY well hidden. Would never guess this is an imperial stout.
Mouthfeel is full, thick, creamy, sticky. Nice amount of soft carbonation. Finish is long and bitter with the smallest bit of warming.
A nice stout on a cold Christmas Eve.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Heard rumors this puppy was infected. So, here we go:
A: Pours a black as night beer. Two fingers mocha head falls slowly to a sheet of the same. Sub-cobweb lacing.
S: Spicy bourbon character. Vanilla, oak, malt, licorice, alcohol. As it warms, hints of sharp vinous character comes thru, only hint of infection.
T: Lots of malt. Bourbon is a little more subdued. Soil flavor in there as well. Oats. Bitterness (presumably from hops). Not particularly complex for a BBA.
M: Medium to heavy body with lower carb.
O: I really appreciate the Dogfather, the BBA version gets much of it’s character from the barrel. I wish they were more aware of the time to benefit ratio (they age it 8 months and blend it back with fresh stuff) for the beer. Would do better with less time IMO.
