22oz. bottle, very dark pour with good tan lacing. Green coffee nose and roasted malts, followed by Bourbon, chocolate and vanilla in the background. Roasted malt flavors with Bourbon and chocolate. Finish is bitter dark chocolate Alcohol is well hidden. The flavors are separated, unmatured taste. Might need some time. Still its good.

Lightly bretted. SMell is mostly oak and cocoa, slight brett. Brett is more prevalent in the flavor, htough it isn’ sour, just slightly medicinal. not terrible despite its infection.

Poured from bottle into imperial pint glass. Pour was dark, thick, oily. Quite a bit of dense tan foam that faded to a thin layer. Lots of lacing and sheeting as consumed.
After pouring let it warm in glass for a bit. Aroma is bread, coffee, chocolate, walnuts and bourbon. Lots of sweetness but balanced by malty bitterness. Lots of coffee flavor here along with dark chocolate. The nearly 11% ABV is VERY well hidden. Would never guess this is an imperial stout.
Mouthfeel is full, thick, creamy, sticky. Nice amount of soft carbonation. Finish is long and bitter with the smallest bit of warming.
A nice stout on a cold Christmas Eve.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Heard rumors this puppy was infected. So, here we go:
A: Pours a black as night beer. Two fingers mocha head falls slowly to a sheet of the same. Sub-cobweb lacing.
S: Spicy bourbon character. Vanilla, oak, malt, licorice, alcohol. As it warms, hints of sharp vinous character comes thru, only hint of infection.
T: Lots of malt. Bourbon is a little more subdued. Soil flavor in there as well. Oats. Bitterness (presumably from hops). Not particularly complex for a BBA.
M: Medium to heavy body with lower carb.
O: I really appreciate the Dogfather, the BBA version gets much of it’s character from the barrel. I wish they were more aware of the time to benefit ratio (they age it 8 months and blend it back with fresh stuff) for the beer. Would do better with less time IMO.

22 oz bottle. Part of a tasting 11/24/2013 at Fraser’s Pub in Ann Arbor. The pour is very dark, like an oil. Minimal head and no lace to be found anywhere. The aroma is very heavy in the bourbon, dominating the hints of other flavors. The taste isn’t as heavy in the bourbon, but is still strong. Vanilla and licorice take a back seat, and then there is a little chocolate on the follow-up. The mouth feel is much thinner than I was expecting for a heavier stout, and then the finish is just a touch dry.

Bottle thanks to somebody, rating from my backlog. The look is black in color, has a big tan head, and is dark. The smell is chocolate, alcohol, malts, and roast. The taste is roast, malts, sweet, toast, and celery.

Dark tan/red head. Smells of bourbon and coffee. Tastes of coffee, licorice, vanilla, bourbon and finishes with dark chocolate. Not too heavy for the style. Very flavorful, very good. It’s a keeper.
