A: The pour is a light brown color with a thin off-white head.
S: A nice bit of nuttiness on the aroma along with sweet toasted and bready malts. Light hop aromas that are earthy in nature. A touch of tea on the nose, making it truly English.
T: Strangely grassy on the flavor. Moderately bitter, which isn’t really appropriate for this kind of beer. Slightly nutty with some floral notes and a touch of toffee sweetness.
M: Medium body with a fairly high level of carbonation.
O: Not a terribly good brown ale, especially not an English one. Would pass on this one.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 jercraigs (6477) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 9, 2010
2010-06-26. Dark red-brown body, with a modest beige head and nice lacing. Flavour has a malty core with an interesting mix of toasty-roasty overtones and a hoppy bitterness. Brief kiss of dry cocoa, but not really. Modest aroma, mild toast and roast accents in the malt, touch of dry cocoa. Average palate is fine but just a bit more heft to it would suit my tastes better. Decent. On Tap at Laurelwood NW Public House, Portland.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Dogbrick (6022) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - MAY 20, 2013
Sample from firkin at the 6th Annual Rogue Firkin Fest at Green Dragon. The beer is a reddish-brown color with a medium light beige head that dissipates slowly. Strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast malt, chocolate and hops. Light-bodied with flavors of chocolate malt, nuts and a bit of citrusy hops. The finish is sweet with a roasty malt aftertaste. Decent overall.
