UPDATED: JAN 26, 2007 Extremely thick with a big chocolate liquor flavor and aroma. Smoky and rich, similar to Old Rasputin. Very sweet finish with cherries, milk chocolate and bourbon. Not much behind the rich, overpowering chocolate syrup flavor, but still nice.

Jet black. Dense creamy tan head. Chocolatey nose. Creamy medium body. Chocolate, milk chocolate, and malted milk on the mid-palate. Mild chocolatey finish.

Appearance: Pours a dark brown, near black body with ruby-hued edges when held toward the light and topped by a short-lived, tan head. Smell: Aroma of roasted malts and charred wood, with notes of chocolate, caramel, dried herbs, and a small handful of loose change. Taste: Sweetish dark malts with a fairly restrained roast character and subsequent flavors of unsweetened chocolate and caramel sauce. Much to my dismay, it’s at this early stage that the flavor begins thinning out considerably. Vague herbal and wooden flavors wrapped in a medium amount of bitterness. Faint metallic hints. Finishes dry but abruptly. Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium-low carbonation. Drinkability: While by no means is it a bad stout, it does come up short in terms of malt depth, overall flavor, and body. Still though, it’s worth a try.

Dark Brown in color, clear with thin brown head. Thick dark malt and chocolate aroma. Big alcohol flavor and dark chocolate flavors. This was rich full and flavor filled. One of the best Impy Stouts in the world. Too much will catch up fast.

boFNjackson (2936) - Portland, Oregon, USA - JAN 1, 2009
UPDATED: JAN 2, 2009 First rating of 09. Bottle... Poured black with a brown head. Roasted aroma that was nutty with caramel and toffee. Light carbonation on the tongue which enabled the alcohol flavors to be balanced. Other flavors of coffee, roasted malt grains, and sweet caramel with a dominate smoked tone. Very creamy and a frothy, Irish Cream-like finish.

On tap at Belmont Station. Black body with a tall khaki head. Big roasty nose, lots of chocolate. Damn hoppy imperial stout, a bit overly bitter, could use some time to mellow the bitterness and take away the sharpness. Nice anise flavor shows in the finish along with lingering cocoa. Very dry finish, highly carbonated, cuts the body a bit.

Flat black-brown glass of beer with a tight dark chocolate and light roasted aroma with no off-smells or seepage of ethyls. Thinnish body with a sapid roast chocolate flavors. Would wish for a more lively body and thicker mouthfeel, but quite well-crafted and highly drinkable.

I got some of the last of this before it ran out the other night at the pub in Portland. Thich and black, there is no seeing through this one, and a huge creamy dark brown head. Big coffee flavors along with some slight nuttiness like a hazelnut and some rich chocolate as well. Finish is somewhat sticky and syrupy but not quite cloying. A decent solid Imperial.

Jet black, creamy tan head. Oily, inky, very sticky. Dense dark chocolate, up my alley.

Pours purple-black with a lacy tan head. Sweet full body, medium carbonation. The aroma and taste are hocolate from start to finish, with just a touch of espresso.
