Organic Portland Roast Espresso Stout is a collaboration between the Laurelwood brewery and Portland Roasting. The beer features a blend of Ethiopian and Sumatran coffees specially selected by the Head Brewer at Laurelwood. The Organic and farm friendly coffees blend nicely with their smooth and mellow organic stout. The roasted character of the ale is nicely complimented by the coffee flavor and aroma.

22oz bottle I picked up at John’s or Belmont months ago. Pours a black cola color with decent khaki head that leaves little to no lacing. Nose leaves me a little worried, soy sauce, wet cardboard, roasty nut and malt, some cocoa nib and some coffee bean...not really coffee or espresso...as well; but mostly a little heavy on the soy/cardboard. Little thin on the body but very respectable on the carbonation. Watery roasty/nutty malt, some coffee and hints of chocolate but really a bit watery. I had this on draft much fresher and I seem to recall it being a bit better, but I didn’t take notes. Hopefully I get to try it again fresher as I think it is suffering too much from oxidation...even though the bottle isn’t super old.

On tap at Laurelwood Pizza Co. Colour... dark brown with reddsih edges and a thin head. Nose... Yup! That’s espresso! Palate... frothy coffee with a creamy texture, dark chocolate, dry and bitter around the edges of my palate.

22 oz. bottle - thick, dark brown pour with foamy tan head; deep aromas of roasted coffee; rich, creamy texture drink very smooth; flavors primarily coffee, but is thin overall and falls a little flat; initial impression of aromas fades as well through the whole bottle

All coffee. Creamy and roasted, chocolate rounds out the aromatics. Thickly dark, tan head. Creamy texture, coats the mouth, dry bitterness and more strong dark roast. Wonderful.

22oz. Bottle: Thanks glkaiser! Aroma of chocolate, light coffee, brownie, light espresso, and slight roasting. Poured dark brown in color with a small to medium-sized, dense, brown head that lasted throughout. Cloudy. Sparkling. Full of small particles throughout. Small lacing. Flavor is lightly sweet and slightly bitter. Tastes of of chocolate, espresso, dark malts, roasting, slight vanilla, and brownies. Medium body. Average texture. Average carbonation. Lightly sweet, espresso, chocolate, and roast finish.

22. Pours jet black with a big, dense, creamy, pitted tan head that leaves plenty of stringy lace. Gorgeous. Big sweet chocolatey coffee nose--smells, even when cellar cool, like a hot cup of good coffee. I can’t stress that good part of good coffee enough. So many places dump in a pot of day-old truck stop coffee and call it a coffee stout. Blecch. This is some serious business right here. Comes on creamy, high side of medium--nice big beer. Plenty of chocolate and coffee, beautifully integrated, on the mid-palate. Nice long coffee finish. This seriously is making me crave a cup of joe. This is an awesome coffee beer.

Pours jet black from a 22oz bottle delivering a rich full chocolate tan head which lingered for a good while. A waft of alcohol, a strong blast of dark rich coffee and some sultry brown sugar notes in the nose. Mouth feel medium-bodied and astringent. Flavor - can you say "coffee". Nice rich coffee with a malty sweetness but not too much. The flavors echo relatively quickly but leave a nice warm glow wrapped in an cup of inviting coffee and a kiss of bitter-sweet chocolate. Ahh...coffee.

Tap@Brewpub. Strong aroma of coffee beans. Opaque colour, light brown head, good lace. Sweetish, roasted bitterness, coffee with a bit of sugar. Flavourful and well balanced.
