COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Organic Portland Roast Espresso Stout is a collaboration between the Laurelwood brewery and Portland Roasting. The beer features a blend of Ethiopian and Sumatran coffees specially selected by the Head Brewer at Laurelwood. The Organic and farm friendly coffees blend nicely with their smooth and mellow organic stout. The roasted character of the ale is nicely complimented by the coffee flavor and aroma.

Expected black, instead it’s dark mahogany, clean, with beige nitro head. Nice roasted malt aroma. Smooth mouthfeel, lightly sweet, some roasted malt, some coffee, but also some taste of "bad" coffee. More roastiness in the final.
Quite nice.

Nitro, Pumphouse Pub. Medium brown. Thick nitro head. Has a vanilla, coffee character and so much nitro it’s practically ice cream. This ends up knocking bitterness out of it, to the detriment of balance.

22 oz. bottle, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out lots of espresso beans and roast. Flavour is along the same lines, with lots of espresso beans upfront, with a little roast and a touch of cocoa. Medium bodied and pretty monolithic. Very nice.

Bomber from Malt & Vine. Pours very brown/black with a decent tan head. Aromas of coffee and chocolate. Medium minus body with frothy carbonation. Flavor is dark chocolate, espresso and some fairly burnt malt. Leaves a chocolate sensation on the top of the tongue. Finishes pretty dry.

UPDATED: FEB 4, 2011 Sample at the 3rd Annual Coldest Day of the Year Stout Tasting on 01/22/2011: Pours brownish-black with a medium tan head that diminishes steadily. Rings of lacing. Roasted coffee aroma with some burnt malt behind it. Medium body with flavors of black coffee, malt and a touch of hops. The finish is roasty coffee with a lasting bitterness. Good all around.

Bottle... Pours dark brown with Longhorn-orange highlights and a small, creamy, mushroom-colored head. Decent retention. The aroma features deep, rich, roasted barley and mocha. Medium-bodied with a moderate measure of airy carbonation. The flavor provides mocha – espresso and dark chocolate - but is fairly thin. Watery, mildly burnt, black coffee finish. Courtesy of After4ever, thanks Tom! It’s black with a red hue and a creamy, lightbrown head. The aroma has wonderful notes of coffee and chocolate! The flavour is slightly sweet with notes of coffee, chocolate, cocoa, light licorice and the finish is dry and slightly bitter. The flavour is very pure, but to be perfect for me, it should have had a a softer/smoother and fuller body.
