Rich Coffee and chocolate flavors dominate this opaque working class Ale. Stout’s extreme popularity among the British factory workers of the 1800’s may qualify it as the fuel for the Industrial Revolution. "By the time you get it, you’re too far out."

Near black colour but with mahogany highlights. Aroma is of sweet chocolatey malts. The flavour is also sweet, the overall character rather lightish - mainly chocolate and sugar. Kind of like if you brewed a Foreign Stout specifically to serve as a dessert.

Draft at the brewpub. Aroma of toasted malt and coffee. Near opaque brown/black color with a tan head leaving lacey rings. Near full in body. Moderate in carbonation. Fair amount of coffee flavor dominating toasted/burnt malt. Finish is burnt malt bitter. Never distinguished hop. Very nice stout. Half way to Imperial?

A deep dark stout with a thin moka head. In aroma, a smooth coffee chocolate with light woody notes. In mouth, loads of coffee with nice bitterness and alcohol warmth in finale. Very nice. On tap at PDX Concourse E location, July 31 2011.

Sample at the Laurelwood Public House at PDX. Jet black pour with a medium khaki head that diminishes gradually to a film. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee and hops. Medium body with flavors of coffee, chocolate malt and earthy hops. The finish is roasty with a coffee aftertaste. Pretty good overall.
