This strong ale is as rich and complex as it is drinkable. A blend of six malts and four hops creates an ale with deep carmel character, spicy hop flavor and a dry roasty finish. It’s spelled differently because it’s Vonderful.

Draft @ PDX. Deep brown with a small light tan head. Aroma of toffee, bready malt, fruity and citrus. Flavor is toffee/caramel malt with a medium hop bitterness and some fruity esters. Medium body with a smooth mouth feel. Really nice beer, malty but some hop character balances this only out nicely.

UPDATED: NOV 18, 2015 Look : Beautiful chestnut/mahogany colored body with cherry hints. 70% opaque. 2 finger head, leaves lace in creamy webs. Smell : Nut, bark, chestnut. Faint aroma. Taste : Pine with nutty flavors. Brown malts. Pine. Nut. Brown Malts. Pine. Nut. Nut. Pine. Feel : Creamy and medium bodied, high carbonation, semi dry finish. Overall : I figured this would be a decent choice to come back from Portland with. Turns out I was wrong. This was too piney and too one-noted.

Bottle (12oz $2): redish brown with white head. Starts out malty then the hops kick in with some bitterness.

Draught at SL Beer Hall. Toffee, raisin, all spice, quite varming indeed. Not bad for a xmas brew but unfortunately imported off-season...

On tap at the brewpub - Pours clear dark bronze with an off-white head. The aroma has horehound candy, caramel, toast and an English yeastiness. It has a medium smooth body with lots of soft carbonation. The flavor starts off with caramel, thick toast, overdone bread and earthy hops. The finish is earthy, woody and rustic with just a touch of the horehound candy. Pretty nice.

22oz bottle pours a translucent, garnet amber with some spitty, off white head. Nose has mild spice, malt, a little bread, mild raisin. Flavor has orange, raisin, mild soap, malt, mild spice. Finishes a bit oily.

Bomber, thanks ctomson! Roasted malt aroma with subtler notes of nuts and a bit of caramel. Pours dark brown with a thin light brown head and some lacing. Starts with a lot of roasted malt with a touch of nuttiness. Finishes a bit dry but smooth with the nuttiness coming forward with a bit of caramel sweetness followed by a very slight bitter bite. Nice, medium bodies winter warmer.

Bottle. Pours a clear darker reddish brown color with a moderate light brown head on there. Nose is nice and toasty, with some bread coming through with some subtle nuts. Taste has some good toasting, and is very crisp with a good bite. I like it.

Pour is a dark red with a small tan head. Aroma is slight chocolate malt with some toffee and tobacco. Flavor is dry and roast malts with again an ever so slight chocolate. Follow up flavors are caramel and toffee with almost a spicy rye earthiness. This was decent and on the low end of ABV for a winter warmer which made for a good weekday drink.

On draught at St. John winter fest - pours clear dark amber with thick head. Nose of malt, booze, and coffee. Taste of smoky booze, malt, and rum. Nice and warming. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
