Een typisch lekker donker bier met een goede geur en een lekkere volle smaak. Een aanrader om eens te proberen

Commissioned by Detrembleur in Vielsalm. Off-white, thick, sticky head, colour a dark burgundy, hazy. Aroma of coffee liqueur, candied dates, nutmeg, white pepper, gravy, brown candi sugar, pear, whisky. Soft dark fruits, light sourish but refreshingly so, deep maltiness, candi sweetness, caramel, light roasted bitterness and aromatic hops in the finish as well as warming alcohol. Very tasteful Scotch-style ale.

33cl Bottle: BBD 11th Jan 14. Poured into it’s own chalice on 16th Nov 13 while at home. Lovely brown body with a slight ruby hue: on top a deep and full beige head of foaming bubbles. Sweet malt molasses in the nose: other cereals in there too. The taste has a huge sweet front, treacle, toffee and caramel, becoming a little more dry and bitter towards the end of each alcoholic sip. The body is both rich and smooth and it’s far to easy to drink. Taken with a cream herb cheese and salted crackers: seemed to work fine.

33 cl. bottle @ home. Procured from Willems. BBF 05/10/2014. Same kind of label as La Vieille Salme by Achouffe – this one is made by another brewer. I assume that both are contract brew – apparently made for the Detrembleur a town in Vielsalm according to RB. Dark copper amber, sizable creamy slightly off-white head. Smells very sweet, brown sugar, caramel, malts, something unpleasant chemical, strongly burned sugar, herbal. Taste is bitter herbal, rye, black bread taste, heavy spices, leaves, black pepper, malts, caramel, dark fruits, small hint of bitter bark but the whole very heavy carbonation messed with the whole. Body is rather light. I don’t know maybe with a bit fuller body & less extreme body but still enjoyable.

Bottle from Beer Planet, Brussels, bb 19.11.11, this shop seems to often sell old bottles
Dark brown color, cloudy, with generous creamy head. The aroma of caramel shows evident signs of oxidization. It has a quite good caramel and malt flavor, with moderate sweetness, and hints of oxidization that are not too disturbing; the bitterness level is quite low.
Pleasant drink, well suitable for cheese. Reminds me of the old style Belgian beers from the 90’s.
Probably at its peak of maturation.

33cl bottle @ home shared with my dad. Unclear dark orange to light reddish color, medium sized rough beige head that leaves a good lacing. Smell malts, lightly sugar. Taste malts, light to moderately sweet, hint of raisin, caramel, lightly fruity. Full carbonation, medium to full body.

(Bottled) Hazy darkish brown with a small but firm head. Aroma of alcohol, vanilla and berries. Flavor is sweetish-caramely with berries and light Belgian yeastiness. Quite full body with low CO2. A too sweet and straightforward, but otherwise well made Belgian strong.
