Even in 1895, Porter was brewed from the mountain spring in Löbau, and it was a beloved drink in the Lausitz. With our Lausitzer Porter, we successfully continue this brewing tradition. Across the land, the legendarily sweet taste of this unique dark beer has found friends among connoisseurs of dark brews.

* Old rating, 0,5l crown-top bottle, best before 06.07.04. Malzig-süßes Bier. Dunkel und klebrig. Der zugefügte Zucker macht sich deutlich bemerkbar, süß-klebrig-malziger Nachgeschmack.

Amber to dark brown colour, with a small beige head. Bread, cereal, chocolate on the nose. The taste is cloyingly sweet, unfitting for a beer. The for this style typical burnt and cocoa-like notes are not present here. Oily mouthfeel, medium body. It’s not what a beer, let alone a porter should taste like, but honestly I liked it, because I’m a guy with a sweet tooth. Mea culpa.

500ml bottle from Gourmondo.de, darkish brown colour, small rocky beige head, fair lacing. Moderately malty aroma of caramel and bread with a hint of chocolate and nuts, light floral hops. Taste is initally very sweet and slightly acidic, turning into an abrupt moderately sweet and slightly bitter finish. Oily texture, medium body, average carbonation. Reminds me more of an African nonalcoholic malt beverage than a porter, way too sweet.

Bottle from a shop in Prenzler Berg. Pours a rather light brown, almost a dark orange. Slight beige head. Aoma is dark malt, in a light way, and I am thinking/imagining a little chocolate. Med body. Flavor is sweet med med dark malt. Might be some hop. Seems to have an attempt at a balancing bitter in the finish. Not one of the tastiest schwarzes.

Bottle 50cl. Clear , dark brown color, small frothy beige head, recedes quickly, no layer, light lacing; sweet malty aroma, brown sugar, caramel, cola, basement; taste heavy sweet, sticky; medium body, thin texture, sticky mouthfeel, soft carbonation; sugary sweetness in the finish. Not a porter nor a schwarzes but a malzbier.

Poors dark black. Head is very weak and gone in a second. Smell is very weak and has some disturbing taste. Very malty aroma. Beer is very very sweet. Makes even more thirsty. Too much sweetness and too less taste.

Bottl, 500ml, poured into a big Guinness glass at home, ABV 4.4% Brown colour on the body, small and thin tan head, with okay retention, leaving light lacing on the glass. Aroma of malts, caramel, hay. Wow, way too sweet! Very malty taste, dirty hay, sugar, molasses, sticky caramel. Medium thick body, low carbonation, very sticky on the palate. What a failure, definitely not a porter and is a bad one even for a schwarzbier.
