This is the beer that started the brewery. Named after the ancient homeland of the Lavery’s. It is rich, dark and smoky. Not for the faint of heart but that’s how we intended it. It has taste of bacon, which is one of the most beautiful images I can image; a bacon beer. A solid earthy hop bitterness with a little astringency from the dark malts. This beer has no better pair than excellent Vermont Cheddar cheese.

Dastardly appearnce of inky black goodness. Invites an extra long gulp with milky smoothness. Ingredients engage in a polite battle in your mouth for dominance, but generally doesn’t stay long enough for a true winner to emerge, resulting in another quick swig to reestablish the battle. Very drinkable, lighter than appears and great addition to Irish beer arsenal.

UPDATED: MAR 18, 2014 Bomber in trade from jbwimer. Pours deep dark brown to black with a one finger dark khaki head.aroma is more roast than smoke, with big chocolate notes, still some definite smoke, and a hint of earthy coffee. Flavor is lots of roasty chocolate and awesome, some long smokey finish going on here, and ends with chocolate and even a hint of vanilla coffee (maybe my taste buds are broken). Really rich flavors here. Dark fruits begin coming out just a tad as I go. Huge mouthfeel--especially for only 7.5%--with medium carbonation. I am amazed at the body on this. This might be one of my new favorite porters. Must get more.

Bottle. Pours a clear dark brown body under a small fizzy brown head. The nose is moderately smoky with some nice chocolate malt and a light roastiness. The flavor is nicely smoky and the smoke works really well with the slightly sweet chocolate flavors of the Porter. There’s a really nice campfire like smoke flavor to this that’s really pleasant to me. Finishes with a light roast note that works really well with the chocolate malt without dominating it. Medium bodied with a fairly sturdy malt backbone and soft fizzy carbonation. Really nice Smoked Porter.

7/27/13 bottle bought at RW $5.99. Drank out front @ July 13 block party. Thought it smelled like root beer but what do I know, I fell asleep shortly after drinking it. Nothing really of note ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from wegmans. Half in glass half in chili. Pours nicely black with a medium sized tan head with some retention. The aroma has a lot of dark chocolate, some coffee, lightly smoked. The taste has a nice medium smoke over the chocolate of the porter. Not too sweet which I like. The finish has residual smoke and almost some hickory. Well done.

Very good, not great. The smoke is there in the nose and in the taste, and this went very well with bbq. On its own I found it just a tad thin and unintegrated. Still, not bad at all.
