Big thanks to tobelerone for throwing this in on a trade, I was happy to be able to try a Lawson’s with a friend. Dark black color, standard appearance, decent head. Aroma is piney hops. Flavor is oily hops, pine, citrus and a hint of dark malt on the end. No burnt or roast flavors really and I like that because i think sometimes they clash with the hops. This was one of teh better black IPA’s I’ve tasted. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 06-14-2012 03:18:57

Great IPA, thanks Jacob. Delicately roasted, hops shine here, citrusy, distan chocolate, light coffee. Very good black IPA

Bottle. Pours a deep dark black with a large dense creamy tan head. Roast, sweet cocoa and malt, smoke, and sweet lime and citrus. Just on the thin side of medium bodied, roast comes through right away, big and bold. Nice earthy pungent hop notes follow, mellowing into some toffee and cocoa powder. Long earthy roast, dark and char filled, long bakers cocoa and bitter grapefruit pith on the finish. Very nice.

Bottle thanks to Keir! Pour is near black with small black head. Aroma is roasted malt and loads of fresh pine hope. Flavor also fresh and bright with hints of pine and light citrus. Very fresh and bright. Nice.

Sampled from bottle at DLD ’12. Pours a dark brown/black color with a medium sized beige head. The aroma has roasted malts, chocolate, with a hop profile that is citrus, earthy and mildly herbal. The flavor shows a nice balance between the roasted malts, chocolate and even sweeter caramel with the bold citrus and earthy hops. Black IPA’s are something I only enjoy when done very well and this fits the bill.

(Rating #2632)

Black pour with a big tan head. Aroma up front is citrus and a ton of roasted malt. Flavor puts some nice resinous hop notes in as well as some chocolate, coffee, and more roast. Luckily this one doesn’t get astringent at all, and has just enough of an alcohol bite to it. Body was full, rich. Nice bitter finish on this one. Yum!

Pours black with a medium mocha head. Aroma is roasty with a touch of coffee...hoppiness creeps in...hint of citrus. Flavor is roasty up front with a touch of peat...good spicy bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium and silky with a hoppt burnt/roasty finish. Tasty!
