Bomber thanks to Arbitrator. OMG rare, it says it on the bottle! Dark brown in color with a large cascading tan head. Good lacing. Earthy hop aroma, with wet leaves and some substantial roasty notes. Roasty flavor with slight bitter cocoa along with citrusy and earthy hops. Rather bitter. Medium-bodied and dry as hell, very resinous, with softer carbonation. Pretty nice IBA, but I’ve certainly had better as of late.

Big hop roasted earthy aroma, pours pitch black tight head with some lacing, taste all over the place some sweetness very bitter you could pick up a lot, medium body sticky texture, finish is a palate wrecking long lasting bitterness

Finally opened this up hopefully it hasn’t fallen off. Enjoyed in a standard pint glass with buddies at around 40 degrees F. Almost midnight black, solid head that stuck around for a while..maybe my glass wasn’t clean? Smell is very roasty with tangerines and nuts. Taste is roasted malts, hint of chocolate, nuts like almonds and a mild bitterness. Pine and Citrus hop flavors and some oakyness at the finish.

22oz bottle, thanks ygtbsm94. Small tan head atop cola brown body. Aroma is moderately sweet, grapefruit, some bittersweet chocolate, light roast. Taste is much the same as the nose. Light-medium body.

750ml bottle pours a watery, translucent brown with a clumpy white head. Nose is all IPA, C-hops, grapefruit, earthy, lemon. Flavor is sweet, hoppy, oranges, lemons, malty, pine. Medium bodied, bitter finish.

Thanks to Michael for this rare Lawson’s...Brown beer with an off white head. A small cap forms, so-so lacing...This beer is total hop forward, does makes any bones about it. Hop bomb of flowers and grass, a little citrus helps to balance this pretty nicely...The taste is all hops and nothing else, way to strong its really tough to drink. So bitter, too hop forward. Decent start but to much hops to drink.

bottle courtesy of reynolds314, thanks! this is exactly why i dont like black ipa’s. big time clash all over for me. in the aroma, the taste, the mouthfeel and finish, all of it. it is citrusy more than piney. not the worst ive had, but ive only had a few black ipas i like and this isnt really one unfortunately.

Poured into a perfect pint. 3.5 A: Black color. One and a half fingers of frothy/creamy light brown head. Retention is good and a short ring of lacing is left. 3.5 S: Formitable roastiness with notes of molasses. Citrusy and earthy hops with emphasis on orange, grapefruit, and pineapple. Not bad, but the aromas don’t flow together that well. 3.5 T: Taste is like the nose. Lots of roast, some molasses, and some caramel. Orange, grapefruit, pineapple, and earthiness fromt he hops. Lower bitterness from the hops, which I think is a must for the style, so at least they got that right. Again, decent. 3.5 M: Lighter medium to medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Decently creamy. 3.5 D: Not a huge fan of the style, but this one isn’t bad. A little better than average for the style. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 09-16-2012 21:42:23
